BREEDING FOR FEED EFFICIENCY: POULTRY

Canadian Journal of Animal Science, 1984
In egg-type poultry, variation in egg mass, body weight and change in body weight account for about 50–70% of the variation in feed consumed. In meat-type poultry, about 40% of the variation in feed consumption is attributable to variation in change of body weight (gain), and body weight itself.

Feed processing to maximize feed efficiency

2012
Swine production operations must undertake a comprehensive review of their feeding program, which includes the selection of ingredients, feed manufacturing processes, and the physical form of the feed presented to the pig. The increased demand for cereal grains in the bio-fuels sector has led to greater competition for the limited supply of grains ...

Efficient and effective cow feeding

Proceedings of the British Society of Animal Production (1972), 1989
The financial success of beef cow enterprises depends to a large extent on efficient control of cow feeding. The fact that the single suckled beef cow has to be maintained for a whole year to produce one calf means that the cost of feeding the cow represents the biggest single variable cost.

INCREASING CORN FEED PRODUCTION EFFICIENCY

VESTNIK RIAZANSKOGO GOSUDARSTVENNOGO AGROTEHNOLOGICHESKOGO UNIVERSITETA IM P A KOSTYCHEVA, 2022

Feed efficiency in swine

2012
'Feed efficiency in swine' has been prepared as a comprehensive treatise on the current state of our understanding of this topic which is so important to the pork industry. Each chapter is written by international authorities who understand both the science and application of their topic area.

Time Budgeting and Feeding Efficiency

1985
Our treatment of diet selection by lapwings and golden plovers has so far been taken across birds feeding in very different types of flock. It is well known, however, that the size and species composition of a flock can influence individual foraging behaviour and feeding efficiency (see Chapters 1 and 5).

Feed efficiency monitoring

2007
In aquaculture, the feeding costs represent around 30-40% of the total production costs. Therefore some sort of action to rationalize this production aspect could bring significant economic improvements. Although many fish farmers know the meaning and purpose of the feed conversion monitoring, many of them neglect to keep it in check and by doing so ...

The Efficiency of Feeding Livestock

Journal of Farm Economics, 1943
THE significance to the economics of production of the patterns in which the productive elements are combined has long been recognized. This phenomenon, and its corollary, the varying returns to any single element, have been treated either as studies of individual operations or as hypothetical schedules for an entire industry set up for classroom ...

Feeding and barn management strategies that maximize feed efficiency

2012
The stockperson is responsible for the daily care and welfare of pigs in the barn. Through their actions, they also can influence overall feed efficiency. Prior to loading pigs, thoroughly cleaning and operating the facility in an all-in, all-out manner has shown to improve pig performance and feed efficiency. Removing feed from previous groups of pigs
