A cell-permeable biscyclooctyne as a novel probe for the identification of protein sulfenic acids [PDF]
Reactive oxygen species act as important second messengers in cell signaling and homeostasis through the oxidation of protein thiols. However, the dynamic nature of protein oxidation and the lack of sensitivity of existing molecular probes have hindered ...

Ferroptosis assassinates tumor
AbstractIn 2020, nearly 20 million peoples got cancer and nearly 10 million peoples died of cancer, indicating the cancer remains a great threat to human health and life. New therapies are still in urgent demand. We here develop a novel cancer therapy named Ferroptosis ASsassinates Tumor (FAST) by combining iron oxide nanoparticles with cancer ...

Lysosome-dependent cell death and deregulated autophagy induced by amine-modified polystyrene nanoparticles [PDF]
Nanoparticles (NPs) typically accumulate in lysosomes. However, their impact on lysosomal function, as well as autophagy, a lysosomal degradative pathway, is still not well known.

Modelling ferroptosis in IPEC-J2 cells: insights into iron-dependent cell death
Ferroptosis, a form of regulated cell death characterised by iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation, plays a crucial role in various diseases. However, its mechanisms in livestock, particularly in pigs, remain unclear.

Magnetic nanoparticles for ferroptosis cancer therapy with diagnostic imaging
Ferroptosis offers a novel method for overcoming therapeutic resistance of cancers to conventional cancer treatment regimens. Its effective use as a cancer therapy requires a precisely targeted approach, which can be facilitated by using nanoparticles ...

Exposure to common noxious agents (1), including allergens, pollutants, and micro‐nanoplastics, can cause epithelial barrier damage (2) in our body's protective linings. This may trigger an immune response to our microbiome (3). The epithelial barrier theory explains how this process can lead to chronic noncommunicable diseases (4) affecting organs ...

Ferroptosis and Necroptosis in the Kidney [PDF]
In the last decade, the role of apoptosis in the pathophysiology of acute kidney injury (AKI) and AKI to chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression has been revisited as our understanding of ferroptosis and necroptosis has emerged. A growing body of evidence, reviewed here, ascribes a central pathophysiological role for ferroptosis and necroptosis to AKI,

Ferroptosis resistance in cancer cells: nanoparticles for combination therapy as a solution
Ferroptosis is a form of regulated cell death (RCD) characterized by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation. Ferroptosis is currently proposed as one of the most promising means of combating tumor resistance.

This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.
