Freeze/thaw stress induces organelle remodeling and membrane recycling in cryopreserved human mature oocytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Purpose: Our aim was to evaluate the ultrastructure of human metaphase II oocytes subjected to slow freezing and fixed after thawing at different intervals during post-thaw rehydration.

FASLG Derived from Fibroblasts in Hydroxyapatite‐Rich Microenvironment Induces Urothelial Anoikis to Trigger Randall's Plaque Exposure

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Randall's plaques (RP) serve as the nidus for calcium oxalate (CaOx) kidney stones. The current study reveals that hydroxyapatite (HAP) crystals activate the THY1–GSK3α/β–β‐catenin axis in renal interstitial fibroblasts (hRIFs), inducing FASLG secretion.

In Vitro Fertilization

open access: yesInteramerican Journal of Health Sciences
In vitro fertilization (IVF) refers to the technology of a fertility procedure used to aid conception of the embryo by using a combination of drugs and surgery to encourage sperm to fertilize eggs and help fertilized eggs implant in the uterus. This method is used to treat couples who do not have eggs or sperm (through donor gametes).

Versatile DNA Hydrogel‐Mediated Delivery of Ginsenoside‐Encapsulated Small Extracellular Vesicles to Boost Diabetic Wound Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a DNA hydrogel‐mediated delivery system, in which ginsenoside (GS) molecules are incorporated into small extracellular vesicles (sEV) secreted by mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and the formed complexes are then anchored in DNA hydrogels via aptamer‐CD63 affinity as “GS/sEV@DNAgels”, to improve diabetic wound repair.

Influence of PEG Molecular Weight on Washout Resistance and Deposition Efficiency of Magnetoresponsive Nanoclusters Under Pulsatile Flow for Magnetic Drug Targeting

open access: yesPharmaceuticals
Background/Objectives: Magnetic drug targeting (MDT) using polyethene glycol (PEG)-coated magnetoresponsive nanoclusters (MNCs) can localize therapeutics, but washout from high-shear arterial flow limits efficacy.

Recent cadmium exposure among male partners may affect oocyte fertilization during in vitro fertilization (IVF) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We recently reported evidence suggesting associations between urine cadmium concentrations, reflecting long-term exposure, measured in 25 female patients (relative risk = 1.41, P = 0.412) and 15 of their male partners (relative risk = 0.19, P = 0.097 ...

18β‐Glycyrrhetinic Acid and a Nano‐Liposomal Formulation Alleviate Depression‐Like Behaviors via the Microglial mTOR‐Autophagy‐NLRP3 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using a novel zebrafish‐based inflammatory screening strategy, we screened and identified 18β‐glycyrrhetinic acid (18β‐GA) as a promising anti‐inflammatory candidate. We uncover a microglial mTOR–autophagy–NLRP3 axis that constitutes the mechanistic core of 18β‐GA–mediated neuroprotection.

Magnetic Drug Targeting Under Pulsatile Flow: A Safety-Constrained Framework for Deposition and Retention Stability

open access: yesMagnetochemistry
Magnetic drug targeting (MDT) is commonly evaluated by peak accumulation at the target site. Under pulsatile flow, however, initial deposition does not predict sustained localisation.

Serum vitamin D concentrations in young Turkish women with primary dysmenorrhea: A randomized controlled study

open access: yesTaiwanese Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2018
Objective: This study aims to investigate the possible role of vitamin D deficiency in primary dysmenorrhea by assessing serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 levels in a cohort which includes young Turkish women with primary dysmenorrhea and healthy controls ...

The Landscape and Regulation of Histone Crotonylation in Mammalian Gametes and Early Embryos

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Histone crotonylation undergoes a genome‐wide transition from broad domains to canonical narrow peaks during minor zygotic genome activation (ZGA). This remodeling is required for proper major ZGA and blastocyst formation. Disruption of this transition by transcriptional inhibition, metabolic perturbation, or HDAC1 dysfunction impairs embryonic ...
