Essential growth factor receptors for fibroblast homeostasis and activation: Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor (FGFR), Platelet Derived Growth Factor Receptor (PDGFR), and Transforming Growth Factor β Receptor (TGFβR) [version 2; peer review: 2 approved]

open access: yesF1000Research
Fibroblasts are cells of mesenchymal origin that are found throughout the body. While these cells have several functions, their integral roles include maintaining tissue architecture through the production of key extracellular matrix components, and ...

Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 Induces Hepatocyte Growth Factor/Scatter Factor Expression in Osteoblasts* [PDF]

open access: yesEndocrinology, 1999
Hepatocyte growth factor/scatter factor (HGF/SF) is a multifunctional growth factor with a major role in tissue morphogenesis and repair. It stimulates the proliferation of cells of the osteoblast and osteoclast lineages. Mitogenic factors playing a role in fracture repair may act by regulating HGF/SF expression or activity in bone-forming cells.

Effects of Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 on Longitudinal Bone Growth* [PDF]

open access: yesEndocrinology, 1998
In vivo, fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2) inhibits longitudinal bone growth. Similarly, activating FGF receptor 3 mutations impair growth in achondroplasia and thanatophoric dysplasia. To investigate the underlying mechanisms, we chose a fetal rat metatarsal organ culture system that would maintain growth plate histological architecture.

Fibroblast growth factor‐2/platelet‐derived growth factor enhances atherosclerotic plaque stability [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, 2019
AbstractIncreased immature neovessels contribute to plaque growth and instability. Here, we investigated a method to establish functional and stable neovessel networks to increase plaque stability. Rabbits underwent aortic balloon injury and were divided into six groups: sham, vector and lentiviral transfection with vascular endothelial growth factor‐A

Topical fibroblast growth factor‐2 for treatment of chronic tympanic membrane perforations

open access: yesLaryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology, 2020
Objective To determine the efficacy of fibroblast growth factor‐2 (FGF‐2) in treating chronic nonhealing tympanic membrane (TM) perforations. Method Double‐blinded, randomized placebo controlled phase 2 clinical trial for patients with chronic TM ...

Fibroblast Growth Factor 2 Augments Transforming Growth Factor Beta 1 Induced Epithelial-mesenchymal Transition in Lung Cell Culture Model

open access: yesIranian Journal of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, 2020
Impaired lung epithelial cell regeneration following injury may contribute to the development of pulmonary fibrosis. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a critical event in embryonic development, wound healing following injury, and even cancer ...

Combined therapy of platelet-rich plasma and basic fibroblast growth factor using gelatin-hydrogel sheet for rotator cuff healing in rat models

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2021
Introduction Excellent outcomes of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair for small and medium tears have been recently reported. However, re-tears after surgery have been a common complication after surgical repair of large and massive rotator cuff tears and ...

Thrombin‐mediated impairment of fibroblast growth factor‐2 activity [PDF]

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, 2009
Thrombin generation increases in several pathological conditions, including cancer, thromboembolism, diabetes and myeloproliferative syndromes. During tumor development, thrombin levels increase along with several other molecules, including cytokines and angiogenic factors.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Toward a Novel Endogenous Anxiolytic Factor, Fibroblast Growth Factor 2 [PDF]

open access: yesBiological Psychiatry, 2011
Among the 26% of Americans that showed a 12-month prevalence for a DSM-IV psychiatric disorder in 2005, most suffered from anxiety disorders (18.1%), followed by mood disorders at 9.5% (1). Therefore, anxiety disorders affect nearly one fifth of the population directly in their lifetime, albeit with substantial variation in range of affliction. Despite
