Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Ultrafast laser filamentation in ethanol for nanomaterials synthesis

open access: yes, 2022
Ultrafast laser filamentation occurs when laser light propagating in nondiffracting regime, at high laser intensity for distance greater than Rayleigh length in transparent media. An extended high intensity core with clamped intensity, supercontinuum and

Cranberry constituents prevent SOS-mediated filamentation of uropathogenic Escherichia coli

open access: yesInfection and Immunity
The diameter, length, and shape of bacteria are maintained with such high fidelity that these parameters are classically used as metrics in the distinction of bacterial species.

Terahertz pulse generation by two-color laser fields with circular polarization

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2020
We study the influence of the polarization states of ionizing femtosecond two-color pulses on the emitted terahertz radiation in gases. A local-current model and plane-wave evaluations justify the previously-reported impact on the THz energy yield and

Hydrostatic pressure activates HIF‐1α via β‐catenin to promote stemness in breast cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
To mimic the elevated intestinal fluid pressure in breast cancers, we loaded human breast cancer cells (MCF‐7, MDA‐MB‐453, and BT‐474) to 50 mmHg hydrostatic pressure. Hydrostatic pressure exposure upregulated HIF‐1α and induced stemness in MCF‐7 and BT‐474 cells.

The ambipolar filamentation in the warm ionized medium

open access: yes, 2004
International Workshop on Magnetic Fields and Star Formation, APR 21-25, 2003, Madrid, SPAINWe present the 2-D, two fluid ( ions + neutrals) numerical simulations that we are carrying out in order to study the ambipolar filamentation process, in which a ...

The 5′ Untranslated Region of the EFG1 Transcript Promotes Its Translation To Regulate Hyphal Morphogenesis in Candida albicans

open access: yesmSphere, 2018
Extensive 5′ untranslated regions (UTR) are a hallmark of transcripts determining hyphal morphogenesis in Candida albicans. The major transcripts of the EFG1 gene, which are responsible for cellular morphogenesis and metabolism, contain a 5′ UTR of up to

Signaling through Lrg1, Rho1 and Pkc1 Governs Candida albicans Morphogenesis in Response to Diverse Cues. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2016
The capacity to transition between distinct morphological forms is a key virulence trait for diverse fungal pathogens. A poignant example of a leading opportunistic fungal pathogen of humans for which an environmentally responsive developmental program ...

COMPLEX FLARE DYNAMICS INITIATED BY A FILAMENT–FILAMENT INTERACTION [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2015
We report on an eruption involving a relatively rare filament-filament interaction on 2013 June 21, observed by SDO and STEREO-B. The two filaments were separated in height with a 'double-decker' configuration. The eruption of the lower filament began simultaneously with a descent of the upper filament resulting in a convergence and direct interaction ...
