Global robot localization with random finite set statistics
2010 13th International Conference on Information Fusion, 2010We re-examine the problem of global localization of a robot using a rigorous Bayesian framework based on the idea of random finite sets. Random sets allow us to naturally develop a complete model of the underlying problem accounting for the statistics of missed detections and of spurious/erroneously detected (potentially unmodeled) features along with ...

The purpose of this chapter is to extend the basic elements of practical statistics to multisensor, multitarget data fusion. Specifically, in section 5.1 we show that the basic concepts of elementary statistics—expectations, covariances, prior and posterior densities, etc.—have direct analogs in the multisensor, multitarget realm.

Adaptive data fusion using finite-set statistics
SPIE Proceedings, 1999Real-time fusion algorithms are often patchworks of loosely integrated sub-algorithms, each of which addresses a separate fusion objective and each of which may process only one kind of evidence. Because these objectives are often in conflict, adaptive methods (e.g.

A new statistical test for distinguishing 2-partitions of a finite set
Model Assisted Statistics and Applications, 2022This paper considers a family of so-called 2-partitions of some finite set. Each of them divides the set under study into two disjoint parts. Under the assumption that two such partitions are chosen randomly, the exact probability distribution of the special cluster metric on this family is found.

Modeling and Detection of Evolving Threats Using Random Finite Set Statistics
2018 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2018Many threats in the form of human actions (terrorist attacks, military actions, etc.) can be modeled by someone with relevant expert knowledge. A model would be a hypothesis or guess as to how a threat would develop and what kind of observable evidence it would produce along the way.

A Statistical Property of the Arrangements of a Finite Set
Statistics, 1994It is shown that the number of non-void arrangements of {1, … k}, where is some realization of a random variable X with distribution defined by ,which occur in connection with the rencontre problem (as the probability for m fixed points of permutations of {1, … ,n} selected with probability ), is the uniquely determined unbiased estimator of .
