Many Roads to Synchrony: Natural Time Scales and Their Algorithms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We consider two important time scales---the Markov and cryptic orders---that monitor how an observer synchronizes to a finitary stochastic process. We show how to compute these orders exactly and that they are most efficiently calculated from the epsilon-

Sustainable bioplastics manufacturing from renewable sources

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioplastics are manufactured by using polymers from different bio‐based sources. These novel materials not only offer biodegradability but also possess various functional properties that make them suitable for diverse applications. Recent developments in the preparation of bioplastics are reported, highlighting the distinct properties of each type of ...

A Deadbeat Observer for Two and Three-dimensional LTI Systems by a Time/Output-Dependent State Mapping [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The problem of deadbeat state reconstruction for non-autonomous linear systems has been solved since several decades, but all the architectures formulated since now require either high-gain output injection, which amplifies measurement noises (e.g., in ...

Functional Connectivity Linked to Cognitive Recovery After Minor Stroke

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Patients with minor stroke exhibit slowed processing speed and generalized alterations in functional connectivity involving frontoparietal cortex (FPC). The pattern of connectivity evolves over time. In this study, we examine the relationship of functional connectivity patterns to cognitive performance, to determine ...

Observer-Based Finite-Time Modified Projective Synchronization of Multiple Uncertain Chaotic Systems and Applications to Secure Communication Using DNA Encoding

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
This paper studies an observer-based finite-time scheme for two modified projective synchronization modes, including the synchronization of multiple uncertain chaotic response systems to one drive system and transmission synchronization.

A distributed finite-time observer for linear systems [PDF]

open access: yes2017 IEEE 56th Annual Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), 2017
In this paper, the problem of distributed estimation for a linear large-scale system is studied. A nonlinear distributed observer is proposed, whose estimation error converges to zero in a finite time. A fixed-time converging version of the observer is also presented. The efficiency of estimators is demonstrated by computer simulations.

Normal‐Appearing White Matter Injury Mediates Chronic Deep Venous Hypoxia and Disease Progression in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore how cerebral hypoxia and Normal‐Appearing White Matter (NAWM) integrity affect MS lesion burden and clinical course. Methods Seventy‐nine MS patients, including 13 clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) patients and 66 relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients, and 44 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited from ...

Finite-Time Fault-Tolerant Control for Diesel Engine Air Path via Extended State Observer

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
This paper investigates a finite-time observer-based fault-tolerant control scheme for the diesel engine air path, which suffers from loss-of-effectiveness and addictive actuator faults.

Finite-Time State Estimation for an Inverted Pendulum under Input-Multiplicative Uncertainty

open access: yesRobotics, 2020
A sliding mode observer is presented, which is rigorously proven to achieve finite-time state estimation of a dual-parallel underactuated (i.e., single-input multi-output) cart inverted pendulum system in the presence of parametric uncertainty. A salient

Global Finite-Time Attitude Consensus of Leader-Following Spacecraft Systems Based on Distributed Observers

open access: yes, 2017
This paper addresses the leader-following attitude consensus problem for a group of spacecraft when at least one follower can access the leader's attitude and velocity relative to the inertial space.
