Dynamic Micromechanical Characterization of 3D Printed Bone In Vitro Models Manufactured via Vat Photopolymerization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a novel approach to designing and fabricating high‐porosity 3D‐printed scaffolds using a customized resin. Scaffold geometry, cellular interactions, and mechanical properties are analyzed to demonstrate these engineered bone models.

Lagrangian dynamical geography of the Gulf of Mexico [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
We construct a Markov-chain representation of the surface-ocean Lagrangian dynamics in a region occupied by the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) and adjacent portions of the Caribbean Sea and North Atlantic using satellite-tracked drifter trajectory data, the largest collection so far considered.

3D In Vitro Glioma‐Neuron‐Astrocyte Biomimetic Composites Recapitulate Key Molecular Mechanisms Linked to Glioblastoma Multiforme Pathophysiology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Glioblastoma multiforme is the most devastating and incurable brain tumor. To better study this disease, a 3D model is developed using a hyaluronic acid‐based hydrogel combined with a multicellular approach. This model recapitulates in vivo brain stiffness, cell‐extracellular matrix and cell‐cell interactions and the tumor's hijacking function with the

Fish oil-derived n-3 PUFA therapy increases muscle mass and function in healthy older adults.

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2015
BACKGROUND Age-associated declines in muscle mass and function are major risk factors for an impaired ability to carry out activities of daily living, falls, prolonged recovery time after hospitalization, and mortality in older adults.

Polymer Brush Growth by Surface‐Initiated Ring‐Opening Polymerization from a Cross‐Linked Polymer Thin Film

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A stable cross‐linked ultra‐thin polymer coating for surface‐initiated ring‐opening polymerization (SI‐ROP) of hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane and ε‐caprolactone for growth of high grafting density poly(dimethyl siloxane) and poly(caprolactone) brushes is developed.

Nutrient Loading Increases Red Snapper Production in the Gulf of Mexico [PDF]

open access: yesHypotheses in the Life Sciences 3(1):7-14 2013, 2013
A large, annually recurring region of hypoxia in the northern Gulf of Mexico has been attributed to water stratification and nutrient loading of nitrogen and phosphorus delivered by the Mississippi and Atchafalaya rivers. This nutrient loading increased nearly 300% since 1950, primarily due to increased use of agricultural fertilizers.

Physicochemical and Fatty Acid Profile of Fish Oil from Head of Tuna (Thunnus albacares) Extracted from Various Extraction Method

open access: yes, 2017
By-product of tuna fish processing industry has the potential to be developed into fish oil rich in omega. Fish by-products are the main natural source of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid ...

Designing of Self‐Dispersing Soft Dendritic Microcleaners for Microplastics Capture and Recovery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The capture and recovery of microplastics from open aquatic systems is a complex problem, which necessitates nontrivial solutions. The principles of a comprehensive multistage process based on sustainably sourced microcleaners with hierarchical morphology are demonstrated.

Cell Membrane Vesicle Camouflaged Artificial Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Artificial cells camouflaged with a cell membrane vesicle coating are able to assemble into synthetic aggregates that exhibit rudimentary communication capabilities. Additionally, when these artificial cells are equipped with antioxidant capabilities, they are able to protect the intracellular homeostasis in HepG2 cells present in semi‐synthetic ...
