Natural Radioactivity Measurements Applied to the Dating and Authentication of Edible Meat [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
The measurement of the ratio of 228Th vs 228Ra, two isotopes from the natural radioactivity, is an ancient, but not entirely reliable, method of dating biological materials. It has been applied for the dating of fishes with mitigated results in many cases.

Enhancing CoFe Catalysts with V2CTX MXene‐Derived Materials for Anion Exchange Membrane Electrolyzers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MXene dervied CoFe composites show increased initial Oxygen Evolution Reaction (OER) activity compared to the pure CoFe and MXene in an Anion Exchange Membrane device. Vanadium vacancies in the MXene plays a role in increased OER activity and hinders Fe leaching in the AEM device over using the pure V2C MXene as a support material for the CoFe ...

Total replacement of fish oil by vegetable oil with a return to fish oil in Caspian Sea salmon (Salmo trutta caspius) 1: Growth performance, flesh fatty acid profile, and lipid metabolism

open access: yes‬‭Majallah-i ̒Ilmī-i Shīlāt-i Īrān, 2015
The effect of complete substitution of vegetable oils (cottonseed, soybean and grape seed) and a return to fish oil diets on growth parameters, survival and metabolism of free fatty acids in the diet of fish in the Caspian Sea, was investigated.

Ultrasoft Iontronics: Stretchable Diodes Enabled by Ionically Conductive Bottlebrush Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a solvent‐free, ultrasoft, and stretchable ionic diode based on oppositely charged bottlebrush elastomers (BBEs). The BBE diode exhibits an ultralow Young's modulus (<23 kPa), a high rectification ratio of 46, and stretchability over 400%.

Numerical constraints on the size of generation ships from total energy expenditure on board, annual food production and space farming techniques [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
In the first papers of our series on interstellar generation ships we have demonstrated that the numerical code HERITAGE is able to calculate the success rate of multi-generational space missions. Thanks to the social and breeding constraints we examined, a multi-generational crew can safely reach an exoplanet after centuries of deep space travel ...
