Replacement of dietary fishmeal by cottonseed protein concentrate on growth performance, feed utilization and protein metabolism of large yellow croaker Larimichthys crocea

open access: yesAquaculture Reports, 2022
A 90-day feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of cottonseed protein concentrate (CPC) replacing dietary fishmeal on growth performance, feed utilization and protein metabolism of large yellow croaker (initial body weight: 191.60 ± 1.36 g).

Unlocking the Potential of Sea Bass Skin: Characterization of Gelatin and Edible Gelatin Films

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
Sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) skin waste was successfully valorized into high‐purity gelatin. SSG exhibited significantly higher oil binding capacity than commercial bovine and fish gelatins. Edible films developed from sea bass skin displayed a smooth, compact, and ordered matrix morphology.

Fishmeal replacement and its effects on nutrition and the physiology of Penaeus vannamei shrimp juveniles

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Aquatic Research, 2023
The replacement of fishmeal with plant protein sources has been studied in Penaeus vannamei. However, it has only been studied from the point of view of protein replacement, forgetting the integral role that fishmeal plays in the nutrition of shrimp.

Bile acid metabolism and signaling in human and animal health: A One Health perspective

open access: yesiMetaOmics, Volume 3, Issue 3, September 2026.
Bile acids maintain host homeostasis through enterohepatic circulation, microbial transformation, and bile acid receptor signaling, thereby regulating glucose and lipid metabolism, intestinal barrier integrity, and immunity. These effects support human disease intervention and health‐oriented animal production, reducing drug dependence and residue ...

Occurrence of Food Chemical Contaminants in Entomophagy: Implications for Food Safety and Future Risk Assessment—A Scoping Review

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 5, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Entomophagy is increasingly recognized as a sustainable alternative to conventional protein sources due to its low environmental impact. However, ensuring its safety requires careful evaluation of chemical contaminants of food safety concern.

Assessment of integration of black soldier fly larvae meal and yeast Yarrowia lipolytica in diets of Macrobrachium rosenbergii based on growth, nutrient digestibility, intestinal microbiota and phosphorus discharge

open access: yesAquaculture Reports
The growing demand for sustainable protein sources in aquaculture has driven interest in black soldier fly (BSF) larvae meal and yeast Yarrowia lipolytica (YL) as fishmeal alternatives. This study evaluated the effects of replacing fishmeal (0–80 %) with

Black Soldier Fly Larvae as a Fishmeal Alternative: Effects on Growth, Muscle Quality, Antioxidant Status and Gut Microbiota of Juvenile Pangasius

open access: yesFishes
To evaluate the economic and ecological potential of black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) slurry as a fishmeal alternative, 270 juvenile Pangasius (initial body weight: 7.20 ± 0.07 g) were acclimated for two weeks and randomly allocated to three dietary ...

Evaluation of a Bacterial Single-Cell Protein in Compound Diets for Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) Fry as an Alternative Protein Source

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
A 60-day trial was conducted in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fry (initial weight = 2.5 ± 0.6 g) to evaluate the potential use of a bacterial single-cell protein (SCP) as an alternative protein source.

Nutritional Characterisation of Acheta domesticus at Different Developmental Stages for Application in Animal Feed

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, Volume 110, Issue 5, Page 780-791, September 2026.
ABSTRACT The house cricket Acheta domesticus has emerged as a promising alternative protein source for animal nutrition; however, limited information is available on how developmental stage influences its nutritional characteristics. This study compared subadults (30‐day‐old) and adults (40‐day‐old) crickets in terms of chemical composition, mineral ...
