Phaseolus vulgaris leuco-agglutinin immunohistochemistry. A comparison between autoradiographic and lectin tracing of neuronal efferents [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
The autoradiographic pattern of anterograde labeling as a result from injections with tritiated amino acids is compared to the labeling of efferents with Phaseolus vulgaris leuco-agglutinin after lectin injections in the same nucleus visualized by ...

Evaluation of the Histological Staining Performance of Rat Eyeball Sections Prepared Using a Self-Developed Fixative

open access: yesShiyan dongwu yu bijiao yixue
ObjectiveTo compare the histological staining performance of four various tissue fixatives, including a self-developed fixative, for preparing paraffin sections of rat eyeball tissue.MethodsTwenty 5-week-old male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly ...

Impact of fixations on anti-genetic determinants of CD4, CD68, and Pax8 immunohistochemistry: A comparative study of NBF, Zink formalin, and Bouin's fluid [PDF]

open access: yesIraqi Journal of Veterinary Sciences
Fixation inhibits autolysis and is an essential step in disease. Our work examined how neutral buffer NBF (NBF), zinc formalin (ZF), and Bouin's fluid (BF) affected tissue specific CD4, CD68, and Pax8 anti-genetic determinants.

Evaluation of two eco-friendly neutralizers for a spectrum of tissue fixatives for biomedical applications. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Formaldehyde is a widely used aldehyde in biomedical applications, including tissue fixation. It is this same fixative property that can result in toxicity if aldehydes are improperly discarded.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Locus coeruleus complex of the family Delphinidae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The locus coeruleus (LC) is the largest catecholaminergic nucleus and extensively projects to widespread areas of the brain and spinal cord. The LC is the largest source of noradrenaline in the brain.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Qualitative analysis of histochemical and immunohistochemical properties of ethanol, glycerol, and formalin fixative

open access: yesAsian Journal of Medical Sciences
Background: Fixation is essential in histopathology to preserve tissue integrity before analysis, with neutral buffered formalin being the gold standard for decades because of its effective protein cross-linking properties.
