Lean flame dynamics through a 2D lattice of alkane droplets in air

open access: yes, 2014
International audienceFlame propagation along a 1-D array or through a 2D-lattice of fuel droplets has long been suggested to schematize spray-flames spreading in a two-phase premixture.

Multiobjective Optimization of Hydrogen‐Assisted Calophyllum inophyllum Biodiesel Operation in a Compression Ignition Engine

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Tri‐fuel diesel–Calophyllum inophyllum biodiesel–hydrogen operation was tested over 96 points in a diesel engine. Eight performance and emission metrics feed a preference‐agnostic Bootstrapped Empirical Multiobjective Ranking and Selection methodology, revealing load‐blend‐hydrogen windows that increase efficiency, restrain smoke, and expose NOx trade ...

Influence of equivalence ratio and hydrogen addition on thermoacoustic instabilities in premixed methane and propane flames in vertical tubes

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
This research examines the behavior of premixed flames within a vertical tube, considering both an open and a closed end configuration. The study utilizes a pilot flame as the ignition source.

Hybrid Oxygen Enrichment and Preheating Strategy for Performance Recovery in Ultra‐Lean Micro–Trapped Vortex Combustors

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Ultra‐lean H2 micro‐combustor performance is boosted through regulated O2 enrichment and inlet preheating. A 16‐case Taguchi study (ϕ = 0.3) shows: controlled enrichment and heating increase radiative output and efficiency, but excessive O2/temperature causes flashback.

Experimental Study on the Combustion and Explosion Characteristics of Tributyl Phosphate and Kerosene Mixtures at Different Initial Pressures in High‐Temperature Environments

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
The explosion hazard of TBP and kerosene mixed vapor in the nuclear fuel reprocessing process is studied. The results enrich the explosion characteristics and explosion limits of TBP‐kerosene, and provide reference value and basis for the safety setting of the operation process and operating environment of nuclear fuel reprocessing plants ABSTRACT As ...

A new model for deflagration fronts in reactive fluids

open access: yes, 1999
We present a new way of modeling deflagration fronts in reactive fluids, the main emphasis being on turbulent thermonuclear deflagration fronts in white dwarfs undergoing a Type Ia supernova explosion.

Mixing Behavior of Natural Gas and Hydrogen in a High‐Efficiency Vane (HEV) Static Mixer

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Static mixers play a crucial role in the safe transport of hydrogen‐blended natural gas. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was employed to investigate the effects of structural parameters of the HEV static mixer on the mixing behavior and homogeneity of natural gas and hydrogen. The modeling approach was well validated against experimental data.

Travelling waves in the cool flame regime

open access: yes, 1990
Hydrocarbon oxidation develops through a complex network of elementary steps. Depending on the initial thermodynamic conditions, different behaviours are observed ranging from slow combustion to hot ignition [1].

Experimental and Numerical investigation of hot-jet ignition with shock effects in a constant-volume combustor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
poster abstractA wave rotor, an array of channels arranged around the axis of a cylindrical drum, can be used as a combustor in gas turbine engines in order to reduce the consumption of the fuel by increasing the fuel efficiency.
