A FLARE IN THE JET OF PICTOR A [PDF]
A Chandra X-ray imaging observation of the jet in Pictor A showed a feature that appears to be a flare that faded between 2000 and 2002. The feature was not detected in a follow-up observation in 2009. The jet itself is over 150 kpc long and a kpc wide, so finding year-long variability is surprising.

Quantifying Gas Flaring CH4 Consumption Using VIIRS
A method was developed to estimate the consumption of CH4 and the release of CO2 by gas flaring using VIIRS nighttime data. The results agreed with the field data collected at six stations in Bakken field, North Dakota, USA, within ±50%, as measured by ...

Dynamics of small-scale magnetic fields before small and large solar flares
We have examined the dynamics of the longitudinal magnetic field of active region NOAA 12673, using data from the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). During the passage of the active region (AR) across the solar disk, its spots and background fields showed

The evolution of flaring and non-flaring active regions
According to the modified Zurich classification, sunspot groups are classified into seven different classes (A, B, C, D, E, F and H) based on their morphology and evolution. In this classification, classes A and B, which are small groups, describe the beginning of sunspot evolution, while classes D, E and F describe the large and evolved groups.

Objective Several case reports have proposed a potential association between COVID‐19 vaccination and the subsequent development of idiopathic inflammatory myositis (IIM). This study examined prior COVID‐19 vaccination in US veterans who developed new‐onset IIM compared to those without new‐onset IIM.

Addressing Economic Insecurities Can Improve Patient‐Reported Outcomes in Lupus
Objective Economic insecurities, such as food, housing, transportation, and financial challenges, are modifiable risk factors and influence patient‐reported outcomes (PROs) in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). We examined the following: (1) associations between economic insecurities and PROs, and (2) the impact of screening and addressing economic ...

Recent Progress in Understanding Solar Magnetic Reconnection [PDF]
Magnetic reconnection is a fundamental process occurring in a wide range of astrophysical, heliospheric and laboratory plasmas. This process alters magnetic topology and triggers rapid conversion of magnetic energy into thermal heating and nonthermal ...
