Attractiveness of discount rate versus limited quantity: The moderating effect of temporal distance [PDF]
Purpose - This paper aims to examine how the temporal distance can influence the effect of the scarcity message. To demonstrate this effect, the authors use the limited-quantity flash sales and compare two types of mixed promotion method comprising ...

Hot flashes and night sweats (vasomotor symptoms) are the most recognizable adverse symptoms through and following the menopausal transition. They affect 40-85% of all women, being more frequent and severe in breast cancer survivors1, 2. Vasomotor symptoms negatively impact sleep, energy, sexuality, and overall quality of life3, 4.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

The effect of iconicity flash blindness
In our experiment, the Saussurean postulate of arbitrariness has been empirically tested in order to see whether it can be applied to all words to the same extent. Three hundred participants were asked to match Czech words with their Hindi translations.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Computational neurobiology of the flash-lag effect
In the flash-lag effect (FLE) a moving object is perceived ahead of a stationary stimulus flashed in spatial alignment. Several explanations have been proposed to account for the FLE and its dependence on a variety of psychophysical attributes.

Grouping Effects in Flash-Induced Perceptual Fading [PDF]
We show that the flash-induced fading effect can be influenced by grouping based on colour and shape similarity. In flash-induced fading, peripherally presented elements perceptually disappear after a flash has been presented around or next to the element(s) (Kanai and Kamitani, 2003 Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience15 664–672).

Modelling uncertainty for flash floods in coastal plains using adjoint methods [PDF]
This paper shows the application of adjoint sensitivity analysis to flash flood wave propagation in a river channel. The adjoint sensitivity analysis is used to assess flood hazard in a coastal area caused by river discharge.

The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...
