Temporal errors: Researchers should stop studying the flash-lag effect [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Recent theorizing about perceptual phenomena has been strongly influenced by predictive processing frameworks, to the extent that inconsistent evidence is commonly neglected.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

FLASH Radiotherapy With Electrons: Issues Related to the Production, Monitoring, and Dosimetric Characterization of the Beam

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2020
Various in vivo experimental works carried out on different animals and organs have shown that it is possible to reduce the damage caused to healthy tissue still preserving the therapeutic efficacy on the tumor tissue, by drastically reducing the total ...

Flash Gas Bypass Method for Improving Performance of an A/C System With a Microchannel Evaporator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper demonstrates that Flash Gas Bypass (FGB) method significantly improved the performances of the microchannel evaporator and the system, compared to the conventional direct expansion (DX) system.

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

A framework for the analysis of the influence of rainfall spatial organization and basin morphology on flood response [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This work describes the derivation of a set of statistics, termed spatial moments of catchment rainfall, that quantify the dependence between rainfall spatial organization, basin morphology and runoff response.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Key Considerations for Treatment Planning System Development in Electron and Proton FLASH Radiotherapy

open access: yesQuantum Beam Science
The global cancer burden continues to increase worldwide. Among the various treatment options, radiotherapy (RT), which employs high-energy ionizing radiation to destroy cancer cells, is one of the primary modalities for cancer.

Ultra-High Dose Rate (FLASH) Radiotherapy: Silver Bullet or Fool's Gold?

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2020
Radiotherapy is a cornerstone of both curative and palliative cancer care. However, radiotherapy is severely limited by radiation-induced toxicities. If these toxicities could be reduced, a greater dose of radiation could be given therefore facilitating ...
