Universal primers that amplify RNA from all three flavivirus subgroups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background: Species within the Flavivirus genus pose public health problems around the world. Increasing cases of Dengue and Japanese encephalitis virus in Asia, frequent outbreaks of Yellow fever virus in Africa and South America, and the ongoing spread

Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis Presenting as Fever of Unknown Origin in a 4‐Year‐Old Boy: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT A 4‐year‐old boy presented with prolonged fever of unknown origin and systemic inflammation without early neurological signs. MRI revealed multifocal demyelination, and MOG antibodies were positive. He was diagnosed with ADEM and treated with steroids and IVIg, but relapsed twice, consistent with multiphasic disseminated encephalomyelitis ...

Notification of the first isolation of Cacipacore virus in a human in the State of Rondônia, Brazil

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, 2011
Flavivirus is a genus of arthropod-transmitted viruses of the family Flaviviridae, and in Brazil, up to eleven different Flavivirus have been isolated. We collected blood from farmers in the municipality of Theobroma, which is located 320km from the City

ProTides for Antiviral Activity Beyond Liver Cells

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 32, Issue 21, 1 June 2026.
A strategy for obtaining prodrugs of antiviral nucleotides with broad tissue activity is presented that relies on cycloalkyl or cycloalkylalkyl esters, improving uptake and esterase cleavage, and producing nanomolar inhibitors in kidney, colon, and lung cells.

Bacterial Extracellular Vesicles (BEVs) Derived from Chryseobacterium Inhibit Dengue Virus Infection by Disrupting Its Structural Integrity

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study elucidates a novel antiviral mechanism of bacterial BEVs, which are shown to inactivate viruses by triggering membrane fusion, subsequent lysis and causing structural collapse. This direct virucidal action presents a promising broad‐spectrum strategy against diverse enveloped viruses.

Reverse Genetics of Orthoflaviviruses: Strategies for Constructing Functional or Infectious cDNA

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 98, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Reverse genetics (RG) systems have transformed RNA virus research by enabling the recovery of recombinant viruses entirely from cloned cDNA. These platforms allow precise, hypothesis‐driven manipulation of viral genomes and support systematic phenotypic analyses in vitro and in vivo.

Organoids: From Bench to Bedside Applications

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 6, June 2026.
Organoids, as a groundbreaking biomedical research platform, utilize adult stem cells (ASCs), embryonic stem cells (ESCs), and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) as sources. By integrating specific growth and differentiation signals within an extracellular matrix (e.g., Matrigel), organoids guide cells to self‐assemble into three‐dimensional ...

Nomenclature of Flavivirus-Specified Proteins

open access: yesIntervirology, 1980
Flavivirus structural proteins are designated E, C, and M, replacing the former nomenclature of V3 (envelope), V2 (core), and V1 (membrane-like) proteins, respectively. The nonstructural proteins, formerly NV1 through NV5, are designated by their apparent size in kilodaltons, prefixed by P (or GP if a glycoprotein), if they are stable unrelated end ...

The Multifaceted Roles of Autophagy in Flavivirus-Host Interactions

open access: yes, 2018
Autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved cellular process in which intracellular components are eliminated via lysosomal degradation to supply nutrients for organelle biogenesis and metabolic homeostasis.
