Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Improving the flow pattern in the inlet forebay with diffusion angle in the Xuliu Irrigation Station

open access: yesGuan'gai paishui xuebao
【Objective】 The inlet forebay with a diffusion angle is a component of pump stations that helps distribute water flow evenly before it reaches the pump.

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

Experimental Study on Slug Flow of Submarine Pipelines in Wenchang Oilfield

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2019
To eliminate the impact of severe slug flow on equipment and oilfield production, the second transportation line of Wenchang Oilfield Group is taken as the research object, and a simulation test device is established to study the flow state and parameter

Modeling of Oil–Water Two-Phase Flow in Horizontal Pipes Using CFD for the Prediction of Flow Patterns

open access: yesEng
A computational fluid dynamics study of the horizontal oil–water flow was performed using the Eulerian–Eulerian and mixture multiphase models in conjunction with the realizable k–ε turbulence model for the characterization of flow patterns.

Conserved binding mode but diverse interfaces of MreC‐PBP2 interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of abMreC reveals a conserved two β‐barrel architecture and provides structural insights into its role within the bacterial elongasome. The abMreC–abPBP2 complex model identifies the molecular basis of MreC‐mediated PBP2 recognition, contributing to the regulation of peptidoglycan synthesis.
