Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Similarity solutions for unsteady shear-stress-driven flow of Newtonian and power-law fluids : slender rivulets and dry patches

open access: yes, 2011
Unsteady flow of a thin film of a Newtonian fluid or a non-Newtonian power-law fluid with power-law index N driven by a constant shear stress applied at the free surface, on a plane inclined at an angle α to the horizontal, is considered.

Flow Stress Behavior of 15%SiCP/8009 Aluminum Matrix Composite During Hot Compression Deformation

open access: yesJournal of Aeronautical Materials, 2017
The flow stress behavior of 15%SiCP/8009 aluminum matrix composite at deformation temperature of 400-550 ℃ and strain rate of 0.001-1 s-1 was studied by hot compression testing on the Gleeble-3500 thermal-mechanical simulator.

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Flow along a long thin cylinder [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Two different approaches have been used to calculate turblent flow along a long thin culinder where the flow is aligned with the cylinder. A boundary-layer code is used to predict the mean flow for very long cylinders (length to ratio of up to O(106 ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Enhanced tensile plasticity of Zr based bulk metallic glasses by a stress induced large scale flow

open access: yes, 2017
Tensile plasticity in a Zr-based bulk metallic glasses is achieved through a stress induced large-scale flow. The large-scale flow is activated in a complex stress field which is produced by introducing micro-pits array on specimen surfaces using a ...

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Experimental and numerical studies of the flow structure generated by a submerged sluice gate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Sluice gates are commonly used to control discharge and levels, and to monitor discharge. However discharge formulas perform poorly at large opening and large submergence.
