Shear Stress Induces the Release of an Endothelial Elastase: Role in Integrin alpha(v)beta(3)-Mediated FGF-2 Release [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background/Aims: Laminar shear stress is an important stimulus in the endothelium-dependent control of vascular tone and of vascular remodeling processes.

A Study on Hot Open Die Forging Method of Blade Cylinder Root Using AA 5083 Cast Alloy [PDF]

open access: yes한국정밀공학회지, 2019
The blade cylinder root is a key component connecting the blade and pitch bearing of a wind turbine and is 20% of the blade’s manufacturing cost. Blade cylinder roots are manufactured using the open die forging method with steel alloy.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Constitutive Modeling for Flow Stress Behavior of Nimonic 80A Superalloy During Hot Deformation Process

open access: yesHigh Temperature Materials and Processes, 2016
The hot deformation characteristics of nickel-based alloy Nimonic 80A were investigated by isothermal compression tests conducted in the temperature range of 1,000–1,200°C and the strain rate range of 0.01—5 s–1 on a Gleeble-1500 thermomechanical ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Evaluation of bed shear stress under turbid flows through measures of flow deceleration

open access: yes, 2006
In previous work it has been observed that the direct application of the law-of-the-wall in flows of high concentrations of cohesive sediments, results in overestimation of the bed shear stress.

Anisotropic eddy-viscosity concept for strongly detached unsteady flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The accurate prediction of the flow physics around bodies at high Reynolds number is a challenge in aerodynamics nowadays. In the context of turbulent flow modeling, recent advances like large eddy simulation (LES) and hybrid methods [detached eddy ...
