On the Stable-Oscillation Domain of a Simple Fluidic Oscillator

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2009
A confined jet sometimes causes a self-exited oscillation due to the existence of a downstream target. In this work, the authors study this phenomenon.

A Constrained Particle Dynamics for Continuum-Particle Hybrid Method in Micro- and Nano-Fluidics

open access: yes, 2006
A hybrid method of continuum and particle dynamics is developed for micro- and nano-fluidics, where fluids are described by a molecular dynamics (MD) in one domain and by the Navier-Stokes (NS) equations in another domain.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Development of a Photo-Fluidic Control Valve without Mechanical Moving Parts

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2010
An optical servo system is a new control system which can be used in hazardous environments; such as those with electromagnetic influence, radiation and so on. The purpose of our study is to develop such an optical control system.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

UVP Measurements on Periodic Flow in a Flip-Flop Jet Nozzle

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2007
This research deals with the switching mechanism of a flip-flop jet nozzle with a connecting tube, being based on the measurements of pressure in two chambers, velocity in the connecting tube and velocity distribution between two inside walls of the ...

Study on the Fluidic Component of the Complete Fluidic Sprinkler

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2013
The PXH fluidic sprinkler controlled by the outlet clearance is a new type sprinkler which is driven and controlled by the Coanda effect. This paper analyzes the offset jet with control stream in the simplified model. Based on the special design of the fluidic component of the fluidic sprinkler, a control stream coefficient was proposed and the air ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
