A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Economic Boom and Social Mobility: The Irish Experience [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we examine the consequences for social mobility patterns of the unprecedented period of economic growth experienced in Ireland over the 1990s and the implications of developments for current theories of social fluidity.

Gender Fluidity

open access: yesFelicitas, 2023
The discussion around gender is one of the most lively, complex and sensitive topics of the 21th century. Recently, for example, a term called: ‘gender fluidity’ has emerged. Gender fluidity is a new variation of the idea of gender that rejects a definitive gender categorization. What is the fundamental idea of ‘gender fluidity’? Is it true that gender

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

EFFECT OF FLASK VIBRATION ON GRAY CAST IRON CHARACTERISTICS PREPARED BY LOST FOAM CASTING

open access: yesRekayasa Mesin
Parameter selection in lost foam casting can reduce the casting defect. Flask vibration is a critical parameter that significantly influences the casting quality in the lost foam casting.

Effect of Cholesterol on Membrane Fluidity and Association of Aβ Oligomers and Subsequent Neuronal Damage: A Double-Edged Sword

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2018
Background: The beta-amyloid peptide (Aβ) involved in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) has been described to associate/aggregate on the cell surface disrupting the membrane through pore formation and breakage.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Formable Fluidity: The Key Consequence of Information Flow in Cyberpunk Fiction

open access: yesAmerican and British Studies Annual, 2019
Cyberpunk is one of the most recent subgenres to emerge in science fiction. In the represented world of this subgenre, information is the constituting element of all the flows, frameworks and interactions.

Investigation of Fresh Properties of Self-Leveling Cement-Based Pastes with CFB Fly Ash as an SCM

open access: yesBuildings
The incorporation of circulating fluidized bed (CFB) fly ash into self-leveling cement-based (SLC) paste production presents significant environmental advantages. However, its addition deteriorates the fresh properties of the paste, posing challenges for
