The Role of the Gut Microbiota in Allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, Volume 101, Issue 8, Page 1980-1996, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo‐HCT) is an effective treatment for patients with high‐risk hematologic malignancies. Over the last decade, gut microbiota composition during allo‐HCT has been associated with patients' outcomes.

On‐site pilot‐scale advanced oxidation pretreatment of hospital wastewater: assessment of pharmaceuticals, pathogens, antibiotic resistance genes and acute ecotoxicity

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, Volume 101, Issue 8, Page 1478-1491, August 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Hospital premises generate wastewater containing a wide spectrum of contaminants, such as pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs), antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and pathogenic microorganisms, whilst plenty of them are classified under the antibiotic resistant bacteria (ΑRΒ) category.

Seasonal Restructuring of Microbial Communities and Resistomes in the Shitalakshya River, Bangladesh Revealed by Shotgun Metagenomics

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 4, August 2026.
Dry‐season pollutant concentration drives microbial restructuring in Bangladesh's Shitalakshya River, shifting communities from Myroides to stress‐tolerant genera while enriching metal resistance genes and efflux pumps, revealing non‐antibiotic co‐selection as a key driver of antimicrobial resistance in urban waters.

Promoting Sustainable Prescribing—A Case Study Presenting Experiences From Two Swedish Drug and Therapeutics Committees

open access: yesPharmacology Research &Perspectives, Volume 14, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT During the past two decades, it has become evident that pharmaceuticals is an emerging environmental problem. In this study, we present the experiences from two Swedish Drug & Therapeutics Committees (DTCs) on how they integrate environmental considerations into their formularies and continuous professional education activities.

Belgian bovine veterinarians' practices and opinions on udder health‐related antimicrobial use and services

open access: yesVeterinary Record, Volume 199, Issue 1, Page e50-e65, 4/11 July 2026.
Abstract Background Changing legislation regarding antimicrobial consumption (AMC) forces Flemish bovine veterinary practitioners (BVP) to rethink their business models and shift their on‐farm practices from curative to preventive. However, little is known about their current practices and opinions regarding antibiotic stewardship, mastitis treatment ...

BioEISense: A Microfluidic Platform for Real‐Time Monitoring of Staphylococcus aureus Biofilm Formation and the Efficacy of Antibiofilm Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 13, Issue 13, 7 July 2026.
BioEISense is a microfluidic device with integrated impedance sensors, for real‐time, label‐free monitoring of S. aureus biofilms. In this study, the biofilm culture conditions were optimized to support sensitive and reproducible detection of biofilm formation and eradication under dynamic flow‐through conditions. The system was also validated for both

Antibiofilm, Antimicrobial, and Anti‐inflammatory Potential of Rubus chamaemorus Rhizome, Leaf, and Fruit Extracts

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 7, July 2026.
Rhizome, leaf, and fruit extracts of cloudberry (Rubus chamaemorus L., Rosaceae) are systematically evaluated for biological activities relevant to wound infections. The methanolic leaf extract exhibits potent antibiofilm and anti‐inflammatory activity without cytotoxicity, whereas rhizome and fruit extracts are largely inactive.
