Fluorouracil cardiotoxicity. [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ, 1978
Our of 140 patients treated with intravenous 5-fluorouracil, four developed ischaemic chest pain within 18 hours of either the second or third dose. In three of these patients the pain recurred after subsequent doses. Predose electrocardiograms in two cases were normal.

Fluorouracil Catabolism in the Combination Treatment of Cyclophosphamide, Methotrexate and Fluorouracil [PDF]

open access: yesJapanese Journal of Cancer Research, 1992
The CMF‐regimen is amongst the most effective chemotherapeutic approaches in the treatment of breast cancer. It is generally accepted that the efficacy of the combination of the three agents used in the regimen, i.e., cyclophosphamide (CY), methotrexate (MTX) and fluorouracil (FUra), is based on interactions between the drugs at the intratumoral level.

5-fluorouracil and cardiotoxicity: a review [PDF]

open access: yesTherapeutic Advances in Medical Oncology, 2018
Fluoropyrimidines such as 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) form the foundation of a wide variety of chemotherapy regimens. 5-FU is in fact the third most commonly used chemotherapeutic agent in the treatment of solid malignancies across the world. As with all chemotherapy, balancing the potential benefits of therapy against the risks of drug-related toxicity is ...

Fluorouracil: biochemistry and pharmacology.

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Oncology, 1988
Fluorouracil (5FU) is still considered the most active antineoplastic agent in the treatment of advanced colorectal cancer. The drug needs to be converted to the nucleotide level in order to exert its effect. It can be incorporated into RNA leading to interference with the maturation of nuclear RNA.

The effect of 5-fluorouracil on erythropoiesis [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 1991
The effects of a single dose (150 mg/kg) of 5-fluorouracil on mature erythroid and erythropoietic and multipotential in vitro precursor populations in the bone marrow and spleen and circulating biologically (erythroid colony forming unit [CFU-E] assay) and immunologically active (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) erythropoietin (Epo) are described ...
