Design of a human biomonitoring community-based project in the Northwest Territories Mackenzie Valley, Canada, to investigate the links between nutrition, contaminants and country foods

open access: yesInternational Journal of Circumpolar Health, 2018
Community-based projects place emphasis on a collaborative approach and facilitate research among Indigenous populations regarding local issues and challenges, such as traditional foods consumption, climate change and health safety.

Bioinspired Mechanically Robust Organic–Inorganic Hybridized Bio‐Adhesives With up to 50% Inorganic Components by Bi‐Continuous Phase Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A robust plant protein adhesive was prepared by fabricating a bi‐continuous organic–inorganic hybrid structure. Compared with traditional organic–inorganic hybrid adhesives, the addition amount of inorganic phase is increased from 0.2%–3.0% to 50%, and the strength and toughness are increased by 6 and 121 times, respectively.

Emerging food contaminants: a review

open access: yesAnalytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2010
Governments throughout the world are intensifying their efforts to improve food safety. These efforts come as a response to an increasing number of food-safety problems and increasing consumer concerns. In addition, the variety of toxic residues in food is continuously increasing as a consequence of industrial development, new agricultural practices ...

Coagulative Granular Hydrogels with an Enzyme Catalyzed Fibrin Network for Endogenous Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Coagulative granular hydrogels are composed of packed thrombin‐functionalized microgels that catalyze the conversion of fibrinogen into a secondary fibrin network, filling the interstitial voids. This bio‐inspired approach stabilizes the biomaterial to match the robustness of bulk hydrogels without compromising injectability, mimicking the initial ...

Effect of Microbes on Contaminant Transfer in the Lake Superior Food Web

open access: yes, 2016
The partitioning of PCBs to natural populations of aquatic heterotrophic bacteria from Lake Superior was measured in both field and laboratory studies to better understand the role of bacteria and the microbial food web in persistent, bioaccumulative ...

Surveillance for Radiological Contamination in Foods

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Public Health and the Nations Health, 1962
The operation of a program for total diet assay of radioactivity directed at a critical age group is described. Results from the program provide meaningful data but not in adequate detail for control measures. (P.C.H.)
