Benthic Producers, Methane Carbon, and Diazotrophic Nitrogen as Sources of Nutrients in the Food Web of a Subarctic Lake

open access: yesDiversity
The majority of research on food webs has focused on temperate lakes, and little is known about the food web of lakes in polar regions. Subarctic lakes are particularly sensitive to climate change, which affects their stability.

Endemic and endangered Short-crested Coquette (Lophornis brachylophus): floral resources and interactions

open access: yesAvian Conservation and Ecology, 2021
The Short-crested Coquette (Lophornis brachylophus) is an endangered species endemic to Mexico. Currently, its distribution area is estimated at 53 km². Little to no information exists on its natural history, abundance, and distribution.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Spatial Factors Outweigh Environmental Variables in Explaining Fish Beta Diversity Within A Massive Anthropogenically Homogenized Water‐Transfer Canal

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Inter‐basin water transfer projects serve as critical artificial corridors that optimize the allocation of water resources. Understanding their influence on aquatic community assembly is a frontier issue.

Foraging on some nonfloral resources by stingless bees (Hymenoptera, Meliponini) in a caatinga region

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
In a caatinga region the flowers and nonfloral resources visited by highly eusocial bees, stingless beess and Apis mellifera (Africanized honey bee) were studied.

Nutrient/TOR signaling controls adipose mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) to regulate organismal growth in Drosophila

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Animals must match their growth rate to available nutrients. We show that in Drosophila larvae, the nutrient‐sensing TOR kinase controls growth by regulating levels of TFAM, a key regulator of mitochondrial function, in the adipose tissue. When nutrients are abundant, high TOR activity suppresses TFAM, lowering mitochondrial bioenergetic activity and ...

Statistical modeling of gut microbiota for personalized health status monitoring

open access: yesMicrobiome, 2023
Background The gut microbiome is closely associated with health status, and any microbiota dysbiosis could considerably impact the host’s health. In addition, many active consortium projects have generated many reference datasets available for large ...

Translophagy—A potential link between autophagy impairment and translational errors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neurodegenerative diseases are characterised by the accumulation of abnormal proteins and protein aggregates, but their origin often remains unknown. We propose that selective autophagy removes damaged protein‐making machinery, preventing errors during protein synthesis.

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.

Chironomidae feeding habits in different habitats from a Neotropical floodplain: exploring patterns in aquatic food webs

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
Ecological studies on food webs have considerably increased in recent decades, especially in aquatic communities. Because Chironomidae family are highly specious, occurring in almost all aquatic habitats is considered organisms-key to initiate studies on
