Intrinsic noise of a micro-mechanical displacement detector based on the radio-frequency single-electron transistor [PDF]
We investigate the intrinsic noise of a micro-mechanical displacement detector based on the radio-frequency single-electron transistor (rf-SET). Using the noise analysis of a SET by Korotkov as our starting point, we determine the spectral density of the displacement noise due to the tunneling current shot noise.

The displacement and annihilation of macroscopic regions with hypervortices in ceramic YBa2Cu3O7-x [PDF]
Features of the controllable displacement, annihilation, and transformation of macroscopic regions of a weak frozen magnetic field (FMF) have been experimentally studied in a plate of granulated ceramic YBa2Cu3O7-x under the action of the transport current flowing through it. It is shown that the displacement of regions with an FMF lower than the first

Economic Consequences of Forced Displacement [PDF]
AbstractOver 42 million people worldwide have been forcibly displaced from their communities, though little is known about the impact of this movement on livelihoods. I use a panel data set and exploit a geographic discontinuity to explore the effects of displacement in Uganda.

Background: There are an estimated 55 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) globally. IDPs commonly have worse health outcomes than host populations and other forcibly displaced populations such as refugees. Official development assistance (ODA) is

Measuring Poverty in Forced Displacement Contexts
Poverty measurement among forcibly displaced populations, including refugees and internally displaced persons, has been, for long, neglected by the economics profession and by poverty specialists working across the social sciences. This has changed since the beginning of the Syrian conflict in 2011 and the peak of the European migration crisis in 2015.

Long-Term Consequences of Forced Displacement: Three Salient Themes
Three salient themes emerge when reviewing the literature on the long-term consequences of forced displacement. First, forced migrants are in many cases highskilled minorities that bring benefits in terms of education, productivity and innovation to the ...

Virtual Displacement in Lagrangian Dynamics [PDF]
The confusion and ambiguity encountered by students, in understanding virtual displacement and virtual work, is addressed in this article. A definition of virtual displacement is presented that allows one to express them explicitly for both time independent and time dependent constraints. It is observed that for time independent constraints the virtual

Anomalous Shock Displacement Probabilities for a Perturbed Scalar Conservation Law [PDF]
We consider an one-dimensional conservation law with random space-time forcing and calculate using large deviations the exponentially small probabilities of anomalous shock profile displacements. Under suitable hypotheses on the spatial support and structure of random forces, we analyze the scaling behavior of the rate function, which is the ...

Forced Migrants in Russia: An Analysis of Russian Law from a Human Rights Perspective
This paper describes the "forced return" of Russian and Russian-speaking peoples in the new "Republics" to Russia as a consequence of the collapse of the USSR.
