The aim of this study was to identify regulatory T cell (Treg) subsets residing in adipose tissue, demonstrate their immunosuppressive functions, and assess the possible role of Sirt1 in their function in overweight subjects.Fat samples were obtained by lipoaspiration from healthy overweight (n = 15) and normoweight (n = 11) subjects.

FOXP3 gene polymorphisms in preeclampsia
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2012To determine whether polymorphisms in the FOXP3 gene are associated with preeclampsia.Case-control study in which 120 women with preeclampsia were compared with 120 healthy normotensive controls. Genetic variants (single nucleotide polymorphisms and microsatellites) in the FOXP3 gene were analyzed.

Analysis of FOXP3 DNA Methylation Patterns to Identify Functional FOXP3+ T-Cell Subpopulations
2022Human regulatory CD4+CD25+FOXP3+ T cells (Tregs) are involved in the suppression of immune responses and play important roles in the maintenance of self-tolerance and immune homeostasis. Abnormal Treg function may result in disease states of varying severity.

Inducible regulatory T cells respond to TGF-β by upregulating Foxp3 expression. Tone and colleagues identify an enhancer site in Foxp3 that binds transcription factors Smad3 and NFAT, suggesting a means by which TGF-β regulates Foxp3 expression.

The immune system has evolved mechanisms to recognize and eliminate threats, as well as to protect against self-destruction. Tolerance to self-antigens is generated through two fundamental mechanisms: (a) elimination of self-reactive cells in the thymus during selection and (b) generation of a variety of peripheral regulatory cells to control self ...

Immune Regulation Although expression of FoxP3 is largely synonymous with T regulatory (Treg) cell identity in mice, type 1 regulatory T cells (TR1) are an exception. TR1 cells produce interleukin-10 but are FoxP3-negative. In comparison with FoxP3-positive Treg cells, the development and functions of TR1 cells are poorly understood.

Hyperthermia regulates FOXP3 expression in human FOXP3+ regulatory T cells (179.8)
The Journal of Immunology, 2012Abstract RATIONALE: Fever is a primordial response to infection and inflammation. FOXP3+ regulatory T cells (Tregs) are central in orchestrating immune responses and preventing autoimmunity. This study hypothesizes that fever or hyperthermia regulates immunity by downregulating FOXP3 to abrogate thymic derived nTregs.

Regulatory T (Treg) cells play a key role in dominant suppression of immune response and maintenance of immune homeostasis. Foxp3, a member of the forkhead transcription factor family, is indispensable for Treg cell development and function.
