Free fatty acids in cultured cells
Lipids, 1970AbstractA method for isolation and quantitation of cellular free fatty acid has been developed. When this method was used to quantitate the free fatty acid content of various cells and tissues, their levels of free fatty acids were found to vary over a wide range.

Free Fatty Acids of Human Meconium
Biology of the Neonate, 2009Meconium samples of 20 healthy full-term babies were analyzed for free fatty acid content. The total fatty acid content per net weight varied by as much as 9-fold between samples. Considerable variability was also observed in the individual fatty acids found in each sample.

Free fatty acid profiles in preeclampsia
Prostaglandins, Leukotrienes and Essential Fatty Acids, 2009Preeclampsia has many characteristics similar to the metabolic syndrome. One of these is aberrant lipid metabolism. We studied free fatty acid (FFA) profiles at baseline and after oral glucose load in 21 preeclamptic and 11 normotensive pregnant women. Insulin sensitivity was measured by intravenous glucose tolerance test. We found that serum total FFA

Free fatty acids and insulin resistance
Current Opinion in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolic Care, 2007Dysregulation of free fatty acid metabolism is a key event responsible for insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. According to the glucose-fatty acid cycle of Randle, preferential oxidation of free fatty acids over glucose plays a major role in insulin sensitivity and the metabolic disturbances of diabetes mellitus.

Bioluminescent determination of free fatty acids
Analytical Biochemistry, 1984A simple, highly specific, and sensitive bioluminescent method for determination of free fatty acids in unextracted plasma or serum has been developed. The method is based on the activation of free fatty acids by acyl-CoA synthetase (EC 6.2.1.3). The pyrophosphate formed is used to phosphorylate fructose 6-phosphate in a reaction catalyzed by the ...

Determination of free fatty acids in beer
Food Chemistry, 2017Free fatty acids (FFA) content of beer affects the ability to form a stable head of foam and plays an important role in beer staling. Moreover, the presence of saturated FAs is related sometimes to gushing problems in beer. The aim of this research was to validate an analytical method for the determination of FFAs in beer.

Plasma free fatty acids in exercise
Journal of Applied Physiology, 1964The effects of exercise of different intensity and duration on plasma free fatty acids (FFA), blood glucose, and lactate were investigated in eight healthy young men. In heavy 10-min work the blood lactate rose rapidly and the FFA decreased. Blood sugar showed no marked change.

Splanchnic free fatty acid kinetics
American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2003These studies were conducted to assess the relationship between visceral adipose tissue free fatty acid (FFA) release and splanchnic FFA release. Steady-state splanchnic bed palmitate ([9,10-3H]palmitate) kinetics were determined from 14 sampling intervals from eight dogs with chronic indwelling arterial, portal vein, and hepatic vein catheters.

Biochemistry of radioiodinated free fatty acids
Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, 1989Radioiodinated free fatty acids have been developed to study myocardial metabolism non-invasively in man. In the present study the distribution of radiolabeled lipids in the myocardium and in arterial and coronary sinus blood was evaluated following injection of three commonly used iodinated fatty acids in fasted (n = 5) and lactate loaded (n = 3) dogs.

Myocardial tissue free fatty acids
Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, 1984Myocardial ischaemia, whether produced by coronary artery ligation or by hypoxic low-flow perfusion of the isolated rat heart, has been shown to be associated with a significant depression in mitochondrial function, as well as an increase in tissue free fatty acid (FFA) levels.
