Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Biochemistry of ungerminated and germinated spores of the vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus, Glomus caledonius: changes in neutral and polar lipids.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1980
Neutral and polar spore lipids of the vesicular-arbuscular (VA) endophyte Glomus caledonius, were identified and quantitatively determined during spore germination, germ tube growth, and germ tube senescence.

Free fatty acids cause podocytes dysfunction and inflammation

open access: yesJournal of Biological Research, 2023
The mechanisms underlying obesity-related kidney disease are not well understood. Growing evidence suggests that free fatty acids (FFAs), a cause of oxidative stress, play an important role in obesity and its related complications.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Total and free fatty acids content during the ripening of artisan and industrially manufactured “Chorizo de cebolla”

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2002
“Chorizo de cebolla” is a traditional sausage made in the north west of Spain. In four batches manufactured by artisanal methods and 4 manufactured by industrial ones the contents of total and free fatty acids were assessed throughout ripening, taking ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

A rapid, simple, and sensitive procedure for the determination of free fatty acids in plasma using glass capillary column gas-liquid chromatography.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1981
A rapid and sensitive method for the analysis of plasma free fatty acids with glass capillary column gas-liquid chromatography and flame ionization detection is described. The plasma sample, together with n-pentadecanoic acid as an internal standard, was

Microtitration of Free Fatty Acids in Plasma

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1967
Abstract A method for determination of free fatty acids in plasma has been developed which employs a modification of Dole's extraction procedure and involves a 1-phase system for titration rather than the 2-phase system most commonly used.

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.
