Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Complex Pharmacology of Free Fatty Acid Receptors [PDF]

open access: yesChemical Reviews, 2016
G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are historically the most successful family of drug targets. In recent times it has become clear that the pharmacology of these receptors is far more complex than previously imagined. Understanding of the pharmacological regulation of GPCRs now extends beyond simple competitive agonism or antagonism by ligands ...

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Colorimetric Microdetermination of Free Fatty Acids

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1973
Abstract A colorimetric method for determination of free fatty acids has been developed, based on the estimation of copper in a chloroform extract of their cupric salts with oxalic acid bis-(cyclohexylidenehydrazide). Contamination with inorganic copper during extraction is practically eliminated by using filter-paper pads.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Effect of sympathomimetic compounds with Β-adrenergic effects on plasma free fatty acids in man

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1966
Nine sympathomimetic compounds were infused intravenously in man, and their effects on the level of plasma free fatty acids, pulse rate, and blood pressure were recorded. Each compound raised the level of plasma free fatty acids.

Saturated free fatty acids induce placental trophoblast lipoapoptosis.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
IntroductionObesity during pregnancy increases the risk for maternal complications like gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and maternal inflammation. Maternal obesity also increases the risk of childhood obesity, intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR ...

HIV‐1 establishes immediate latency in T cells expressing the viral Nef protein

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Nef is a viral protein often omitted from HIV‐1 reporter viruses. Consequently, its role in viral latency is unclear. We developed three novel dual reporter HIV‐1 derivatives that express Nef and allow for detection of latent and productive infection. Using these reporters, we show that Nef does not affect the establishment of immediate viral latency ...

Erythropoietin modulates hepatic inflammation, glucose homeostasis, and soluble epoxide hydrolase and epoxides in high‐fat diet‐induced obese mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Erythropoietin administration suppresses hepatic soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) expression, leading to increased CYP‐derived epoxides. This is associated with a shift in hepatic macrophage polarization characterized by reduced M1 markers and increased M2 markers, along with reduced hepatic inflammation, suppressed hepatic lipogenesis, and attenuated ...

The Disparity of Chain Length Distribution Patterns and Carbon Isotopic Compositions between Different Fatty Acid Purification Procedures

open access: yesYankuang ceshi, 2013
Saturated fatty acids and their isotopic composition are important proxies to reconstruct paleoenvironment and paleoclimate. There are several extraction and purification procedures of n-fatty acids based on different principles.
