Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Distinct phosphorylation clusters determines the signalling outcome of the free fatty acid receptor FFA4/GPR120 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
It is established that long-chain free fatty acids including ω-3 fatty acids mediate an array of biological responses through members of the free fatty acid receptor family, which includes FFA4.

Gut microbiota diversity is prognostic in metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this exploratory study, we investigated the relationship between the gut microbiota and outcome in patients with metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer, treated in a randomized clinical trial with chemotherapy alone or chemotherapy in combination with immune checkpoint blockade.

Study of the lipidic fraction of the artisanal blue cheeses from the Principado de Asturias

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 1994
A study concerning the lipidic fraction in relation to esterified fatty acids composition, free fatty acids contents, triglyceride analysis and gross composition characteristics from artisanal blue cheeses made in the Principado de Asturias was carried ...

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

QUANTITATIVE DETERMINATION OF FATTY ACIDS IN INFANT FORMULA BY GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY WITHOUT DERIVATIZATION [PDF]

open access: yesActa Medica Iranica, 2006
Fatty acids play important roles in biological systems and the newborns fatty acids requirements are covered only by the milk. It is of particular interest to qualify the content of the fatty acids in the milk.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Biochemistry of ungerminated and germinated spores of the vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus, Glomus caledonius: changes in neutral and polar lipids.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1980
Neutral and polar spore lipids of the vesicular-arbuscular (VA) endophyte Glomus caledonius, were identified and quantitatively determined during spore germination, germ tube growth, and germ tube senescence.

Growth of Bifidobacterium species is inhibited by free fatty acids and bile salts but not by glycerides

open access: yesAIMS Microbiology, 2022
High-fat diets have been associated with lower gut and fecal abundances of genus Bifidobacterium. Here, we investigated whether commonly consumed dietary free fatty acids have any detrimental effect on the growth of B. adolescentis, B.

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...
