Evaluation of commercial resins for fructo-oligosaccharide separation

open access: yesNew Biotechnology, 2014
Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) produced by fermentative processes are obtained in mixtures containing significant amounts of salts and other non-prebiotic sugars. A demineralisation process using a mixture of a cationic and an anionic resin was proposed. The separation of FOS from a mixture of fructose, glucose and sucrose was evaluated.

In vitro digestibility and fermentability of fructo-oligosaccharides produced by Aspergillus ibericus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The bifidogenic potential of fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) produced by a newly isolated strain Aspergillus ibericus was studied. Their activity was compared to FOS produced by Aureobasidium pullulans and to a non-microbial commercial FOS sample ...

Effects of oligosaccharides on performance, egg quality, nutrient digestibility, antioxidant status, and immunity of laying hens: a meta-analysis

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science, 2023
A meta-analysis was conducted to determine the effects of different types of oligosaccharides (OS) on the egg quality, intestinal profile, nutrient digestibility, and immunity of laying hens. A dataset was constructed from articles published between 2006

Metabolism of oligosaccharides and starch in lactobacilli: a review

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2012
Oligosaccharides, compounds that are composed of 2 – 10 monosaccharide residues, are major carbohydrate sources in habitats populated by lactobacilli. Moreover, oligosaccharide metabolism is essential for ecological fitness of lactobacilli.

Early Introduction of Solid Feeds: Ingestion Level Matters More Than Prebiotic Supplementation for Shaping Gut Microbiota

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2020
Early introduction of a nutritional substrate is a promising biomimetic strategy for controlling the implantation of the microbiota and preserving the health of young animals.

Functional and nutraceutical properties of fructo-oligosaccharides derivatives: a review

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Properties, 2021
Prebiotics are good source of dietary fiber or a group of nutrients or non-digestible short chain carbohydrates which human body cannot digest and it stimulates the growth and activity of some friendly bacteria in your intestinal tract. Prebiotics fibers

Parameter identification of the fermentative production of fructo-oligosaccharides by Aureobasidium pullulans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this study, a mathematical model for the production of Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) by Aureobasidium pullulans is developed. This model contains a relatively large set of unknown parameters, and the identification problem is analyzed using simulation

A Machine Learning Approach to Study Glycosidase Activities from Bifidobacterium

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2021
This study aimed to recover metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) from human fecal samples to characterize the glycosidase profiles of Bifidobacterium species exposed to different prebiotic oligosaccharides (galacto-oligosaccharides, fructo ...

Randomised controlled trial demonstrates that fermented infant formula with short-chain galacto-oligosaccharides and long-chain fructo-oligosaccharides reduces the incidence of infantile colic. [PDF]

open access: yesActa Paediatr, 2017
Aim: We examined the effects on gastrointestinal (GI) tolerance of a novel infant formula that combined specific fermented formula (FERM) with short-chain galacto-oligosaccharides and long-chain fructo-oligosaccharides (scGOS/lcFOS), with a 9:1 ratio and
