Why on earth do we need experiments to choose the right membrane? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Ultrafiltration (UF) is a relatively inexpensive, versatile, expedient, simple, non destructive, and reagent free technique for fractionating biological solutions in order to purify and concentrate high added value compounds.

Tolerability and safety of the intake of bovine milk oligosaccharides extracted from cheese whey in healthy human adults. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Mechanistic research suggests a unique evolutionary relationship between complex milk oligosaccharides and cognate bifidobacteria enriched in breast-fed infants. Bovine milk oligosaccharides (BMO) were recently identified as structurally and functionally

Fructo-oligosaccharides in table grapes and response to storage

open access: yesFood Chemistry, 2011
Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) have been recognized as health food ingredients with a protective effect against environmental stresses in plants. We have analyzed the profiles of individual FOS in Cardinal table grape pulp, until now undetected, and quantified their changes in response to low temperature and high CO2 levels.

Optimizing the encapsulation of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus acidophilus for enhanced storage stability and gut viability using spray drying

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, Volume 3, Issue 1, Page 81-92, March 2026.
Abstract This research aimed to enhance the storage stability and functional potential of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum through encapsulation using the spray drying technique. The probiotics were encapsulated with 10% carrier materials—corn starch, maltodextrin, and Acacia gum—combined with the prebiotic fructo ...

Degradation and fermentation of fructo‐oligosaccharides by oral streptococci

open access: yesJournal of Applied Bacteriology, 1995
Fructo‐oligosaccharides (FOS) are claimed to have a positive effect on the intestinal flora. They are being used in functional foods in Japan and Europe. This group have tested the degradation of two commercial FOS preparations by oral streptococci in order to predict the cariogenicity of these products.

Phytochemical Profiling and Characterization of Honeydew, Cantaloupe, and Galia Melon Peel Extracts for Potential Prebiotic Activities

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 3, March 2026.
Bioactive compounds are recovered from Honeydew, Cantaloupe, and Galia melon peels through aqueous and ethanolic extraction followed by freeze‐drying. The resulting extracts undergo comprehensive characterization using HPLC, FTIR, and NMR spectroscopy to define their chemical profiles.

Survey on Faecal Microbiota Transplantation and Probiotic Use in Equine Practice in France and Belgium

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 2, March 2026.
A survey of 96 equine veterinarians in France and Belgium revealed widespread therapeutic use of probiotics (82.1%) and faecal microbiota transplantation (76.0%). Knowledge gaps persisted, with 16.7% misidentifying non‐probiotic products and only 22.5% performing donor testing before FMT.
