Comparative evaluation of phenotypic, pedigree, and family-based selection in insect breeding using stochastic simulation

open access: yesAnimal
Selective breeding in insects has predominantly relied on phenotypic selection without considering relatedness. Selection on estimated breeding values could potentially increase genetic gain, but the challenge of pedigree tracking complicates this ...

Selection between and within full-sib sugarcane families using the modified BLUPIS method (BLUPISM)

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Research, 2016
The objective of this study was to assess the efficiency of a modification of the simulated individual best linear unbiased prediction (BLUPIS) procedure, which is used for the approximation of classic individuals (BLUPI) for selection between and within sugarcane families.

NAD+ Metabolism Licenses Zygotic Genome Activation via PARP7‐Mediated ADP‐Ribosylation of UHRF1 in Mouse Early Embryos

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers a metabolic‐epigenetic axis licensing zygotic genome activation (ZGA) in mouse embryos. A developmental decline in NAD+ levels activates PARP7, which mono‐ADP‐ribosylates and stabilizes UHRF1. This modification promotes the establishment of permissive histone acetylation marks, thereby facilitating timely ZGA.

Inhibition of KDEL Receptors Remodels the Tumor Microenvironment for T Cell Independent Tumor Regression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inhibition of KDELR2 in a small fraction of tumor cells generates sustainable immunogenic cell death conditions within the tumor microenvironment. These conditions promote the regression of tumors in a T cell independent manner. During regression, macrophages prime T cells that subsequently provide systemic protection against recurrence. The potency of

‘UENF 506-11’: a new maize cultivar for the North and Northwest of Rio de Janeiro State

open access: yesCrop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology, 2019
The intervarietal hybrid ‘UENF 506-11’ was derived from full-sib maize families in the 11th cycle of reciprocal recurrent selection. It produces a grain yield of 7.57 tons ha-1, and is recommended for cultivation in the North and Northwest regions of the

De Novo Designed Minibinders Targeting the GDF15–GFRAL Axis Reverse Cancer Cachexia and Restore Anti‐Tumor Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tumor‐derived GDF15 drives cancer cachexia and suppresses antitumor immunity. Here, de novo designed minibinders targeting the GDF15–GFRAL interface achieve picomolar affinity and potent pathway blockade. The minibinders alleviate cachexia, restore CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, enhance anti–PD‐1 responsiveness, and provide survival benefits across tumor ...

Análisis de polimorfismo de nucleótido simple en el gen FASN y su relación con características de producción en pollos [PDF]

open access: yesRIA: Revista Investigaciones Agropecuarias, 2013
The purpose of this work is to evaluate possible associations between a Single Nucleotide Polymorphism(SNP) of FASN gene and each of the following productive traits: Feed Intake (FI), Weight Gain (WG) and FinalBody Weight (FBW). At the National Institute

The KIF6‐RBP Complex Orchestrates mRNA Transport Required for Sperm Flagellar Assembly

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Two homozygous deleterious KIF6 variants are identified in unrelated men with impaired sperm motility. Mouse models and multi‐omics analyses reveal that KIF6 cooperates with the RNA‐binding proteins FMRP and FXR1 to deliver mRNAs essential for sperm flagellar assembly, linking disrupted mRNA transport to reduced abundance of key structural and ...

eEF1G Orchestrates Translation to Ensure Meiotic Progression in Transcriptionally Quiescent Spermatocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
eEF1G supports translation elongation of meiotic mRNAs in transcriptionally quiescent leptotene and zygotene spermatocytes. Its depletion in germ cells causes meiotic arrest at the zygotene stage, with defective homologous synapsis and unstable recombination intermediates.
