VARIABLE SPLIT APERTURE PROCESSING OF FULL MATRIX CAPTURE PHASED ARRAY DATA

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2011
Work is being conducted to develop phased array inspection of stainless steel welded pipes. Defects can occur anywhere along the weld fusion face. Optimum inspection performance across the entire weld face can be facilitated by collecting data as Full Matrix Capture (FMC) and applying a processing technique that allows focusing to be ideal for every ...

Advanced Photoacoustic Imaging Using Full Matrix Capture Data Acquisition

2015
Full Matrix Capture (FMC), when used with the Total Focusing Method (TFM), may offer an improvement on the Synthetic Aperture Focusing Technique (SAFT) algorithm. FMC is a data acquisition process which captures A-scan (time-amplitude) data for every transmitterreceiver combination of elements in an array.

Study on the railway wheel ultrasonic inspection method using the full matrix capture

2013 Far East Forum on Nondestructive Evaluation/Testing: New Technology and Application, 2013
The quality of wheel is especially important for the safety of high speed railway. In this paper, a new ultrasonic array inspection method, the Full Matrix Capture (FMC) and Total Focus Method (TFM) algorithm, has been studied and applied to the high speed railway wheel inspection, especially in the wheel web from the tread.

THROUGH-WELD ULTRASONIC PHASED ARRAY INSPECTION USING FULL MATRIX CAPTURE

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2010
Rolls‐Royce and Imperial College are developing phased array inspections for welded stainless steel piping with an undressed weld cap. An inspection that proves particularly challenging requires ultrasonic waves to propagate across the irregular weld‐cap profile, and through the structurally complex weld material.

THE WAVENUMBER ALGORITHM: FAST FOURIER-DOMAIN IMAGING USING FULL MATRIX CAPTURE

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2009
We develop a Fourier‐domain approach to full matrix imaging based on the wavenumber algorithm used in synthetic aperture radar and sonar. The extension to the wavenumber algorithm for full matrix capture is described and the performance of the new algorithm is compared to the total focusing method (TFM), which we use as a representative benchmark for ...

The efficiency optimization of full matrix capture imaging detection based on increasing the effective aperture

2014 IEEE Far East Forum on Nondestructive Evaluation/Testing, 2014
The Full Matrix Capture (FMC) method can provide the original complete information which is detected by the ultrasonic array and can recover with the Total Focusing Method (TFM). This technique has better detection sensitivity and resolution relative to conventional scanning method and is valuable for improving the quality and reliability of industrial

Full matrix capture preprocessing for multiview total focusing method imaging in welds

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
Ultrasonic inspection of austenitic steel welds remains a complex endeavor despite significant progress in ultrasonic data acquisition and imaging methods including the multiview Total Focusing Method (TFM). However, the optimal TFM view can only be chosen with a priori knowledge of the defect position, size, and type.

Full-matrix capture with phased shift migration for flaw detection in layered objects with complex geometry

Ultrasonics, 2016
This paper introduces a method for an ultrasonic imaging with a phased array based on a wave migration algorithm. The method allows for imaging layered objects with lateral velocity variations such as objects with a complex geometry or layers that are not perpendicular to the array's axis.
