Triglyceride-glucose index in the prediction of adverse cardiovascular events in patients without diabetes mellitus after coronary artery bypass grafting: a multicenter retrospective cohort study

open access: yesCardiovascular Diabetology, 2023
Background The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index has been evaluated as a reliable surrogate for insulin resistance (IR) and has been proven to be a predictor of poor outcomes in patients with cardiovascular diseases.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Case Report: von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease: a young female presenting with multiple organ tumors

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics
This report presents a case involving a young female patient diagnosed with von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) syndrome. The patient developed multiple sequential tumors, including spinal cord hemangioblastoma, multiple pancreatic cysts, and pheochromocytoma. Whole-

Specialised lexicography: 20 years in slow motion [PDF]

open access: yesIbérica, 2012
This article discusses the development of specialised lexicography during the past twenty years. It first looks at the practical products published in this period and indicates that although the number of specialised dictionaries, encyclopaedias and ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Triglyceride-glucose index as a superior marker of insulin resistance for predicting long-term major adverse cardiovascular events following coronary artery bypass grafting in China

open access: yesScientific Reports
Insulin resistance (IR) has emerged as a risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD), but there are currently insufficient data on the association of non-insulin-based IR indexes [triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

The impact of new tetralogy drugs on ventricular remodeling in heart failure patients: a systematic review and network meta-analysis

open access: yesBMC Cardiovascular Disorders
Background Heart failure, particularly heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), represents a major global health challenge due to its high prevalence, rapid progression, and substantial mortality rates.
