Smoothing and Differentiation of Kinematic Data Using Functional Data Analysis Approach: An Application of Automatic and Subjective Methods

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Smoothing is one of the fundamental procedures in functional data analysis (FDA). The smoothing parameter λ influences data smoothness and fitting, which is governed by selecting automatic methods, namely, cross-validation (CV) and generalized ...

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Decoding the epigenetics and chromatin loop dynamics of androgen receptor-mediated transcription

open access: yesNature Communications
Androgen receptor (AR)-mediated transcription plays a critical role in development and prostate cancer growth. AR drives gene expression by binding to thousands of cis-regulatory elements (CRE) that loop to hundreds of target promoters.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Fast Algorithm for Impact Point Selection in Semiparametric Functional Models

open access: yesProceedings, 2019
A new sparse semiparametric functional model is proposed, which tries to incorporate the influence of two functional variables in a scalar response in a quite simple and interpretable way. One of the functional variables is included trough a single-index

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Prothrombin conversion accelerates with increasing age in women but not in men: findings from the Moli-sani Cohort Study

open access: yesResearch and Practice in Thrombosis and Haemostasis
Background: The thrombin dynamics method has been used as an add-on analysis method for the thrombin generation test over the past years to study the balance between pro- and anticoagulant pathways.

Functional Data Analysis for Extreme Data

open access: yesIndian Journal of Science and Technology, 2016
The performance of extreme data is observed by using functional data analysis with two extreme values theory approaches. Functional data analysis is one of the techniques to represent data in a functional form or as a smooth curve rather than in a discrete form.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

On the Christoffel function and classification in data analysis

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Mathématique, 2022
We show that the empirical Christoffel function associated with a cloud of finitely many points sampled from a distribution, can provide a simple tool for supervised classification in data analysis, with good generalization properties.
