Dual Ligand‐Enabled Nondirected C─H Olefination of (Hetero)Arenes for the Synthesis of Clickable Derivatives

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
We report an efficient method for late‐stage installation of “clickable” alkyne groups into diverse (hetero)arenes. Using a dual‐ligand palladium catalyst that combines an NASA ligand with an N‐heterocycle, an acrylate unit bearing a terminal alkyne can be introduced via nondirected C─H activation.

Volatile Composition of Smoked and Non-Smoked Iranian Rice

open access: yesFoods, 2016
In this work, the volatile profiles of smoked and non-smoked Iranian rice were identified, and their relative abundance was calculated and compared. Headspace solid-phase microextraction together with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SPME-GC-MS ...

Room‐Temperature Helix‐to‐Disc Conversion of Thia[6]helicene S,S‐Dioxides to Coronene via In Situ Phenoxide Anion Generation

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
In situ phenoxide formation at the benzene terminus triggers room‐temperature conversion of thia[6]helicene S,S‐dioxides to coronene. The solubility contrast drives product precipitation, enabling isolation by simple filtration. This pericyclic annulation between the helical termini provides direct access to coronene‐type planar architectures ...

Rapid pseudo five-component synthesis of intensively blue luminescent 2,5-di(hetero)arylfurans via a Sonogashira–Glaser cyclization sequence

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2014
2,5-Di(hetero)arylfurans are readily accessible in a pseudo five-component reaction via a Sonogashira–Glaser coupling sequence followed by a superbase-mediated (KOH/DMSO) cyclization in a consecutive one-pot fashion. Besides the straightforward synthesis

Iron‐Mediated Electrochemical Cyclopropanation of Borodiiodomethane with Alkenes†

open access: yesChinese Journal of Chemistry, EarlyView.
This work describes an electrochemical iron‐mediated cyclopropanation of borodiiodomethane with alkenes, resulting in the formation of boro‐substituted cyclopropanes. A key feature of this study is the unexpected discovery that the cathodically generated iron ion coordinates with a biquinoline ligand in situ, facilitating the electrochemical ...

Gold-Catalyzed Propargylic Substitution Followed by Cycloisomerization in Ionic Liquid: Environmentally Friendly Synthesis of Polysubstituted Furans from Propargylic Alcohols and 1,3-Dicarbonyl Compounds

open access: yesMolecules
Gold-catalyzed propargylic substitution of propargylic alcohols 1 with 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds 2 followed by cycloisomerization in ionic liquid enables the environmentally friendly synthesis of polysubstituted furans 3 in good-to-high yields.

Tunable Oleo-Furan Surfactants by Acylation of Renewable Furans

open access: yesACS Central Science, 2016
An important advance in fluid surface control was the amphiphilic surfactant composed of coupled molecular structures (i.e., hydrophilic and hydrophobic) to reduce surface tension between two distinct fluid phases. However, implementation of simple surfactants has been hindered by the broad range of applications in water containing alkaline earth ...

Emissions from village cookstoves in Haryana, India, and their potential impacts on air quality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Air quality in rural India is impacted by residential cooking and heating with biomass fuels. In this study, emissions of CO, CO2, and 76 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) were quantified to better understand the ...

Synthesis of β-(trifluoromethyl)furans and spiro-gem- dichlorocyclopropanes from cyclic 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and α-(trihaloethylidene)nitroethanes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
While 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds react with (E)-1,1,1-trifluoro-3-nitrobut-2- ene in the presence of sodium acetate to produce the target β- (trifluoromethyl)furans, their reaction with (E)-1,1,1-trichloro-3-nitrobut-2- ene, under the same conditions, took
