In vitro increased respiratory activity of selected oral bacteria may explain competitive and collaborative interactions in the oral microbiome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Understanding the driving forces behind the shifts in the ecological balance of the oral microbiota will become essential for the future management and treatment of periodontitis. As the use of competitive approaches for modulating bacterial outgrowth is

Fusobacterium is associated with colorectal adenomas. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The human gut microbiota is increasingly recognized as a player in colorectal cancer (CRC). While particular imbalances in the gut microbiota have been linked to colorectal adenomas and cancer, no specific bacterium has been identified as a risk factor ...

Lemierre syndrome presenting as acute mastoiditis in a 2-year-old girl with congenital dwarfism

open access: yesInfectious Disease Reports, 2015
Lemierre syndrome is defined by septic thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein caused by Fusobacterium. Historically, these infections originate from the oropharynx and typically are seen in older children, adolescents and young adults.

Fusobacterium Necroforum Sepsis

open access: yesNihon Naika Gakkai Zasshi, 2003

Tumour microbiomes and Fusobacterium genomics in Vietnamese colorectal cancer patients

open access: yesnpj Biofilms and Microbiomes, 2022
Perturbations in the gut microbiome have been associated with colorectal cancer (CRC), with the colonic overabundance of Fusobacterium nucleatum shown as the most consistent marker.

Genome sequences of nine gram-negative vaginal bacterial isolates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The vagina is home to a wide variety of bacteria that have great potential to impact human health. Here, we announce reference strains (now available through BEI Resources) and draft genome sequences for 9 Gram-negative vaginal isolates from the taxa ...

Oral biofilms exposure to chlorhexidine results in altered microbial composition and metabolic profile [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Oral diseases (e.g., dental caries, periodontitis) are developed when the healthy oral microbiome is imbalanced allowing the increase of pathobiont strains.

Analysis of 16S rRNA genes reveals reduced Fusobacterial community diversity when translocating from saliva to GI sites

open access: yesGut Microbes, 2020
Fusobacterium nucleatum is a Gram-negative oral commensal anaerobe which has been increasingly implicated in various gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, including inflammatory bowel disease, appendicitis, GI cancers.
