Removal of GABAA receptor γ2 subunits from parvalbumin neurons causes wide-ranging behavioral alterations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We investigated the behavioral significance of fast synaptic inhibition by αβγ2-type GABA(A) receptors on parvalbumin (Pv) cells. The GABA(A) receptor γ2 subunit gene was selectively inactivated in Pv-positive neurons by Cre/loxP recombination.

Rubrolides A, D, P, T, U: Total Syntheses and Antibacterial Evaluation of Highly Brominated Marine Natural Products

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
Following the Danube Flow. The first total syntheses of highly brominated rubrolides T, U, and U‐analog, together with the efficient and divergent syntheses of rubrolides A, D, and P. The dibrominated key intermediate, obtained via a Suzuki‐Miyaura cross‐coupling reaction, is the centerpiece of the synthesis.

Interaction of GABA and Excitatory Amino Acids in the Basolateral Amygdala: Role in Cardiovascular Regulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Activation of the amygdala in rats produces cardiovascular changes that include increases in heart rate and arterial pressure as well as behavioral changes characteristic of emotional arousal.

Bromazolam Tablet Quantification and Analysis of Post‐Mortem Cases From the National Programme on Substance Use Mortality (NPSUM)

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
Tablets submitted to drug checking services that were found to contain bromazolam. Over half of these counterfeit tablets mimicked the appearance of licensed formulations (e.g., alprazolam Xanax bars and diazepam Roche 10 mg pills). Bromazolam is now the most commonly detected street benzodiazepine in drug poisoning deaths in the United Kingdom ...

High-throughput screening in larval zebrafish identifies novel potent sedative-hypnotics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BACKGROUND: Many general anesthetics were discovered empirically, but primary screens to find new sedative-hypnotics in drug libraries have not used animals, limiting the types of drugs discovered.

Reduced Oligodendrocyte Density and Axonal Caliber Associated With Mitochondrial Alterations in the White Matter of Chronically‐Starved Mice

open access: yesInternational Journal of Eating Disorders, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a severe eating disorder associated with extreme weight loss, hyperactivity, and amenorrhea. Neuroimaging studies revealed brain atrophy and disruption of white matter integrity in the corpus callosum (CC) of patients with AN. However, the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms remain unclear.

Transient Activation of GABAB Receptors Suppresses SK Channel Currents in Substantia Nigra Pars Compacta Dopaminergic Neurons. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Dopaminergic (DA) neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) are richly innervated by GABAergic neurons. The postsynaptic effects of GABA on SNc DA neurons are mediated by a mixture of GABAA and GABAB receptors.

Acute reorganization of postsynaptic GABAA receptors reveals the functional impact of molecular nanoarchitecture at inhibitory synapses

open access: yesCell Reports, 2023
Summary: Neurotransmitter receptors partition into nanometer-scale subdomains within the postsynaptic membrane that are precisely aligned with presynaptic neurotransmitter release sites.

The effect of Midazolam and Propranolol on fear memory reconsolidation in ethanol-withdrawn rats: Influence of D-cycloserine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: Withdrawal from chronic ethanol facilitates the formation of contextual fear memory and delays the onset to extinction, with its retrieval promoting an increase in ethanol consumption.

Predictive value of seizure onset for gross motor dysfunction in individuals with pathogenic GABRB2 and GABRB3 variants

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Pathogenic variants in γ‐aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptor genes have been associated with a wide spectrum of neurological disorders. We aimed to delineate the clinical trajectories associated with gain‐of‐function (GoF) and loss‐of‐function (LoF) variants in GABRB2 and GABRB3, and to develop a risk‐prediction model for gross
