Advanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.Intermittent catheter use can damage the urinary tract and predispose to infection. We deployed a complex human urothelial model to investigate. Catheter contact induced compressive and shear stress causing umbrella cell disruption, reduced barrier function, inflammation and increased cell adhesion to the catheter surface.
