On the determination of galactosamine-uronic acid

Abstract A procedure for measuring galactosamine-uronic acid was developed by modifying the Levvy-McAllan (10) colorimetric procedures for free hexosamines. Inhibition of uridine diphosphoglucose dehydrogenase by galactosamine-1-phosphate and UDP-galactosamine

Abstract The activity of uridine diphosphoglucose (UDPG) dehydrogenase (UDPG: NAD+ oxidoreductase, EC 1.1.1.22) from rat liver is inhibited markedly in vitro by galactosamine 1-phosphate and UDPgalactosamine. The Ki value is calculated to be 6.2·10−3 M for galactosamine-1-phosphate. The type of inhibition is non-competitive.

Galactosamine hepatotoxicity: Effect of galactosamine on glutathione resynthesis in rat primary hepatocyte cultures

The effect of galactosamine on the resynthesis of glutathione in rat primary hepatocyte cultures was investigated. Cultured rat hepatocytes were treated with galactosamine (4 mM) 1.5 hr prior to concurrent with, or 1.5 hr after cell attachment; total cellular glutathione was then measured over time.

Cystamine modulation of galactosamine-induced hepatotoxicity

The ability of cystamine treatment to protect against galactosamine-induced hepatic necrosis was investigated. Reduced hepatotoxicity was observed following galactosamine hydrochloride (400 mg/kg, ip) in male Sprague-Dawley rats that received cystamine dihydrochloride (300 mg/kg, po) 30 min prior to or 2, 4, 6, 8, or 12 hr after galactosamine.
