Abstract The activity of uridine diphosphoglucose (UDPG) dehydrogenase (UDPG: NAD+ oxidoreductase, EC 1.1.1.22) from rat liver is inhibited markedly in vitro by galactosamine 1-phosphate and UDPgalactosamine. The Ki value is calculated to be 6.2·10−3 M for galactosamine-1-phosphate. The type of inhibition is non-competitive.

Abstract Galactosamine-1-14C was found to be incorporated into rat liver glycogen as glucosamine following perfusion or intraportal injection. The glucosamine was shown to be glycosidically linked to glucose by isolation of a disaccharide containing glucose and glucosamine after β-amylase treatment of the glycogen.

Syntheses of α-d-galactosamine neoglycolipids

Several N-acetyl-alpha-d-galactosamine neoglycolipids, as well as hydrophobized T and T(N) antigen analogues, were prepared for embedment onto liposomes. Three different lipidic structures were used for the anchoring, that is cholesterol, 1,3-bis(undecyloxy)propan-2-ol and 1,3-bis(3,7,11,15-tetramethylhexadecyloxy)propan-2-ol.

Cystamine modulation of galactosamine-induced hepatotoxicity

The ability of cystamine treatment to protect against galactosamine-induced hepatic necrosis was investigated. Reduced hepatotoxicity was observed following galactosamine hydrochloride (400 mg/kg, ip) in male Sprague-Dawley rats that received cystamine dihydrochloride (300 mg/kg, po) 30 min prior to or 2, 4, 6, 8, or 12 hr after galactosamine.

Copper protects against galactosamine-induced hepatitis

Although copper is believed to be hepatotoxic in Wilson's disease and Indian Childhood Cirrhosis (ICC), the rat shows only minimal hepatic damage on copper-loading. To investigate the possibility that copper deposition may potentiate the effects of a superimposed hepatitis, D-galactosamine (GalN) was given to copper-loaded and control rats.

Studies on the hepatotoxicity of galactosamine/endotoxin or galactosamine/ TNF in the perfused mouse liver

Livers of male albino NMRI mice were perfused in situ at a flow rate of 3 ml/min/g liver in a non-recirculation system. The organs remained intact for at least 3 hr as assessed by release of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) into the perfusate and by constant O2 consumption.
