The Role of Galectin-3 in Th17 Differentiation

open access: yes, 2010

Enhancement of immune checkpoint inhibitor efficacy by DHX58+ SELL+ T cells in advanced gastric cancer

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
We created a coculture system using patient‐derived organoids (PDOs) and tumor‐infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) that mimics important interactions between PDOs and TILs in the presence of various ICIs. Our findings reveal that CD62L+ T cells, activated by CD44+ cancer stem cells (CSCs), facilitate tumor regression in samples sensitive to ICIs, which is ...

Human multi-tissue transcriptomics identifies galectin-1 and follistatin-like 1 as exerkines with distinct transcript-to-serum coupling after exercise. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Physiol
Abstract figure legend Acute aerobic exercise induces LGALS1, FSTL1, OGN and C1QTNF3 in both skeletal muscle and adipose tissue, with LGALS1 and FSTL1 upregulation corresponding to increased circulating galectin‐1 and follistain‐like 1. Red and yellow brick bars represent the contribution of skeletal muscle and adipose tissue, respectively, integrating

galectin-1 and galectin-3 expression in human bladder transitional-cell carcinomas

open access: yes, 1999
Galectin-1 and galectin-3 are galactoside-binding proteins involved in different steps of tumor progression and potential targets for therapy. We have investigated the expression of these galectins in 38 human bladder transitional-cell carcinomas of ...

High‐Altitude Adaptation of Frogs (Case Study: Nanorana parkeri): From Physiological Phenotypes to AltitudeOmics

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
High altitudes are challenging for the animals that inhabit these environments. The Xizang plateau frog (Nanorana parkeri) survives in high‐altitude environments through a synergistic strategy of metabolic remodeling and protein expression adjustment to optimize energy efficiency and enhance cellular protection.

Galectin 7 leads to a relative reduction in CD4+ T cells, mediated by PD-1

open access: yesScientific Reports
The role of glycan-binding proteins as an activator of immune regulatory receptors has gained attention recently. We report that galectin 7 reduced CD4+ T cell percentage in both in vitro culture and mouse tumor models.

Targeting Immunologic Pathways in Eosinophilic Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis: Translating Emerging Evidence Into Clinical Practice

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) is a rare and potentially life‐threatening systemic, inflammatory disease with multi‐organ manifestations, variable presentation and complex pathology. Multiple interconnected immunological pathways are implicated in EGPA pathology, including a type‐2 immune response driving predominantly ...

Gene and protein expression of galectin-3 and galectin-9 in experimental pneumococcal meningitis

open access: yes, 2007
Inflammation of the subarachnoid and ventricular space contributes to the development of brain damage i.e. cortical necrosis and hippocampal apoptosis in pneumococcal meningitis (PM).

IL‐33 Drives Inflammatory Changes and Extracellular Trap Formation in Eosinophils Involving Oxidised LDL and Complement Pathways

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
IL‐33 induces inflammatory gene signatures in eosinophils, characterised by the upregulation of cell surface markers, inflammatory mediators and regulatory factors, all of which were also observed in nasal polyp‐derived eosinophils. Ox‐LDL and complement fragments (C3a and C5a) promote eosinophil adhesion and survival.

Quantitation and histochemical localization of galectin-1 and galectin-1-reactive glycoconjugates in fetal development of bovine organs.

open access: yesHistology and histopathology, 1997
The display of cellular oligosaccharide chains is known to undergo marked developmental changes, as monitored histochemically with plant lectins. In conjunction with endogenous lectins respective ligand structures may have a functional role during fetal development. The assumption of a recognitive, functionally productive interplay prompts the study of
