Xanthones of Garcinia mangostana Linn.

Tetrahedron, 1971
Two new xanthones, gartanin and 8-desoxygartanin, have been isolated from very ripe fruits of Garcinia mangostana and their structures have been shown to be VIIa and X tespectively. Partially ripe fruits contain only mangostin and β-mangostin. The structural similarity of 8-desoxygartanin to the acridone alkaloid atalaphylline is discussed.

Benzophenone synthase from Garcinia mangostana L. pericarps

Phytochemistry, 2012
The cDNA of a benzophenone synthase (BPS), a type III polyketide synthase (PKS), was cloned and the recombinant protein expressed from the fruit pericarps of Garcinia mangostana L., which contains mainly prenylated xanthones. The obtained GmBPS showed an amino acid sequence identity of 77-78% with other plant BPSs belonging to the same family ...

Anti-inflammatory activity of mangostins from Garcinia mangostana

Food and Chemical Toxicology, 2008
The fruit hull of Garcinia mangostana Linn (Guttiferae) is used as an anti-inflammatory drug in Southeast Asia. Two xanthones, alpha- and gamma-mangostins, were isolated from the fruit hull of G. mangostana, and both significantly inhibited nitric oxide (NO) and PGE(2) production from lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells.

Garcinia mangostana
