Structure of a C-terminal fragment of its Vps53 subunit suggests similarity of Golgi-associated retrograde protein (GARP) complex to a family of tethering complexes [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2010
The Golgi-associated retrograde protein (GARP) complex is a membrane-tethering complex that functions in traffic from endosomes to the trans-Golgi network. Here we present the structure of a C-terminal fragment of the Vps53 subunit, important for binding endosome-derived vesicles, at a resolution of 2.9 Å.

The apple GARP family gene MdHHO3 regulates the nitrate response and leaf senescence

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
The regulation of plant gene expression by nitrate is a complex regulatory process. Here, we identified 90 GARP family genes in apples by genome-wide analysis.

Domains within the GARP Subunit Vps54 Confer Separate Functions in Complex Assembly and Early Endosome Recognition [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Biology of the Cell, 2006
Tethering complexes contribute to the specificity of membrane fusion by recognizing organelle features on both donor and acceptor membranes. The Golgi-associated retrograde protein (GARP) complex is required for retrograde traffic from both early and late endosomes to the trans-Golgi network (TGN), presenting a paradox as to how a single complex can ...

VPS54 and the wobbler mouse

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2015
The wobbler mouse is an animal model for human motor neuron disease, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The spontaneous, recessive wobbler mutation causes degeneration of upper and lower motor neurons leading to progressive muscle weakness with

GARP and EARP are required for efficient BoHV-1 replication as identified by a genome wide CRISPR knockout screen.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2023
The advances in gene editing bring unprecedented opportunities in high throughput functional genomics to animal research. Here we describe a genome wide CRISPR knockout library, btCRISPRko.v1, targeting all protein coding genes in the cattle genome ...

The function of Golgi apparatus in LRRK2-associated Parkinson’s disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, 2023
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disease associated with the intracellular organelles. Leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) is a large multi-structural domain protein, and mutation in LRRK2 is associated with PD.

RNF41 interacts with the VPS52 subunit of the GARP and EARP complexes

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2017
RNF41 (Ring Finger Protein 41) is an E3 ubiquitin ligase involved in the intracellular sorting and function of a diverse set of substrates. Next to BRUCE and Parkin, RNF41 can directly ubiquitinate ErbB3, IL-3, EPO and RARα receptors or downstream signaling molecules such as Myd88, TBK1 and USP8.
