Vps54 regulates Drosophila neuromuscular junction development and interacts genetically with Rab7 to control composition of the postsynaptic density

open access: yesBiology Open, 2020
Vps54 is a subunit of the Golgi-associated retrograde protein (GARP) complex, which is involved in tethering endosome-derived vesicles to the trans-Golgi network (TGN).

Monolayer platform to generate and purify primordial germ-like cells in vitro provides insights into human germline specification

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Generating primordial germ cell-like cells (PGCLCs) from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) advances studies of human reproduction and development of infertility treatments, but often entails complex 3D aggregates.

The GARP/Latent TGF‐β1 complex on Treg cells modulates the induction of peripherally derived Treg cells during oral tolerance [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, 2016
Treg cells can secrete latent TGF‐β1 (LTGF‐β1), but can also utilize an alternative pathway for transport and expression of LTGF‐β1 on the cell surface in which LTGF‐β1 is coupled to a distinct LTGF‐β binding protein termed glycoprotein A repetitions predominant (GARP)/LRRC32. The function of the GARP/LTGF‐β1 complex has remained elusive.

Porphyromonas gingivalis promotes progression of esophageal squamous cell cancer via TGFβ-dependent Smad/YAP/TAZ signaling.

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2020
Microbial dysbiosis in the upper digestive tract is linked to an increased risk of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Overabundance of Porphyromonas gingivalis is associated with shorter survival of ESCC patients.

Radial or bilateral? The molecular basis of floral symmetry. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
In the plant kingdom, the flower is one of the most relevant evolutionary novelties. Floral symmetry has evolved multiple times from the ancestral condition of radial to bilateral symmetry.

Vps51p Mediates the Association of the GARP (Vps52/53/54) Complex with the Late Golgi t-SNARE Tlg1p [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Biology of the Cell, 2003
Multisubunit tethering complexes may contribute to the specificity of membrane fusion events by linking transport vesicles to their target membrane in an initial recognition event that promotes SNARE assembly. However, the interactions that link tethering factors to the other components of the vesicle fusion machinery are still largely unknown. We have

Defects in COG-Mediated Golgi Trafficking Alter Endo-Lysosomal System in Human Cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2019
The conserved oligomeric complex (COG) is a multi-subunit vesicle tethering complex that functions in retrograde trafficking at the Golgi. We have previously demonstrated that the formation of enlarged endo-lysosomal structures (EELSs) is one of the ...

Unique and overlapping functions for the transcriptional regulators KANADI1 and ULTRAPETALA1 in Arabidopsis gynoecium and stamen gene regulation

open access: yesPlant Direct, 2023
Plants generate their reproductive organs, the stamens and the carpels, de novo within the flowers that form when the plant reaches maturity. The carpels comprise the female reproductive organ, the gynoecium, a complex organ that develops along several ...

Lead Toxicity in Cereals: Mechanistic Insight Into Toxicity, Mode of Action, and Management

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
Cereals are the major contributors to global food supply, accounting for more than half of the total human calorie requirements. Sustainable availability of quality cereal grains is an important step to address the high-priority issue of food security ...

Tethering complexes in the Arabidopsis endomembrane system

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2016
Targeting of endomembrane transport containers is of the utmost importance for proper land plant growth and development. Given the immobility of plant cells, localized membrane vesicle secretion and recycling are amongst the main processes guiding proper
