ABSTRACT LIN‐24, an aerolysin‐like pore‐forming protein in Caenorhabditis elegans, exemplifies how ancient cytolytic mechanisms have evolved into regulated cellular processes. Initially identified for inducing nonapoptotic, engulfment‐dependent cell death in vulval precursor cells, LIN‐24 has emerged as a multifunctional regulator of metabolism, stress

Pannexin-1 channels bridge apoptosis to NLRP3 inflammasome activation
Apoptosis can promote inflammation by triggering activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome (NLR family, pyrin domain containing 3). However, the molecular mechanisms regulating these processes are ill-defined.

Monitoring gasdermin pore formation in vitro
The gasdermin (GSDM) family consists of gasdermin A (GSDMA), B (GSDMB), C (GSDMC), D (GSDMD), E or DNFA5 (GSDME), and DFNB59 in human. Expressed in the skin, gastrointestinal tract, and various immune cells, GSDMs mediate homeostasis and inflammation upon activation by caspases and unknown proteases.
