Off-Target Effects of Psychoactive Drugs Revealed by Genome-Wide Assays in Yeast [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
To better understand off-target effects of widely prescribed psychoactive drugs, we performed a comprehensive series of chemogenomic screens using the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model system.

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Integrative Vectors for Gene Deletion and Replacement

open access: yesPolish Journal of Microbiology, 2013
An improved method for gene deletion or replacement in Escherichia coli was developed. It employs a set of integrative vectors and two helper plasmids, as a temporary source of RecA and Flp activities. The integrative vectors combine several useful features including three different selection markers placed between two parallel oriented Flp recombinase

Characterization of multiple type-VI secretion system (T6SS) VgrG proteins in the pathogenicity and antibacterial activity of porcine extra-intestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli

open access: yesVirulence, 2019
Porcine extra-intestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC) causes great economic losses to the pig industry and poses a serious threat to public health worldwide. Some secreted virulence factors have been reported to be involved in the pathogenicity of

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Pneumococcal Gene Complex Involved in Resistance to Extracellular Oxidative Stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Streptococcus pneumoniae is a Gram-positive bacterium which is a member of the normal human nasopharyngeal flora but can also cause serious disease such as pneumonia, bacteremia, and meningitis. Throughout its life cycle, S.

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Probing gene function in Candida albicans wild-type strains by Cas9-facilitated one-step integration of two dominant selection markers: a systematic analysis of recombination events at the target locus

open access: yesmSphere
The adaptation of gene deletion methods based on the CRISPR-Cas9 system has facilitated the genetic manipulation of the pathogenic yeast Candida albicans, because homozygous mutants of this diploid fungus can now be generated in a single step, allowing ...

Analysis of the role of the X/Y homologous gene family Xmr/Sly in murine spermiogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Spermatogenesis is a complex, continuous developmental process that involves the formation of highly differentiated haploid sperm from diploid spermatogonial stem cells.

Proteomic analysis of albumins and globulins from wheat variety Chinese Spring and its fine deletion line 3BS-8

open access: yes, 2012
The relationship between chromosome deletion in wheat and protein expression were investigated using Chinese Spring and fine deletion line 3BS-8. Through 2-DE (2-D electrophoresis) analysis, no differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were found in leaf ...
