A Biomimetic Macrophage-Membrane-Fused Liposomal System Loaded with GVs-HV Recombinant Plasmid for Targeted Anti-Atherosclerosis Therapy

open access: yesPharmaceutics
Background: Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. The presence of atherosclerotic plaques in the arteries leads to continuous growth and obstruction of blood vessels, which ultimately leads to acute myocardial infarction

Nonviral gene delivery system

open access: yesInternational Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation, 2012
Gene therapy has been investigated a lot in both basic research and clinical trials.[1] The first antisense oligodeoxyribonucleotide (ODN) drug, Vitravene (Fomivirsen), was approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2005.[2] After this approval, more and more clinical trials are conducted, not only for ODNs, but also for other ...

Chemotherapy for Spinal Cord Intramedullary Pediatric Low‐Grade Glioma—A Systematic Literature Review

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric intramedullary low‐grade gliomas (PIMLGGs) are rare neoplasms that present unique clinical and management challenges. Although surgery remains the primary tool for tissue diagnosis and decompression, complete gross‐total resection is frequently unfeasible due to the infiltrative nature of these lesions.

Preassembled complexes of hAgo2 and ssRNA delivered by nanoparticles: a novel silencing gene expression approach overcoming the absence of the canonical pathway of siRNA processing in the apicomplexan parasite Babesia microti, blood parasite of veterinary and zoonotic importance

open access: yesEmerging Microbes and Infections
Due to the lack of efficacy of the currently used chemical drugs, poor tick control, and lack of effective vaccines against Babesia, novel control strategies are urgently needed.

Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

AAVR-Displaying Interfaces: Serotype-Independent Adeno-Associated Virus Capture and Local Delivery Systems

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Nucleic Acids, 2019
Interfacing gene delivery vehicles with biomaterials has the potential to play a key role in diversifying gene transfer capabilities, including localized, patterned, and controlled delivery. However, strategies for modifying biomaterials to interact with

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Development of a Multi-functional Nano-device for Safe and Effective Gene Delivery to Target Organs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Nucleic acids are expected as novel effective medicines, although they require a drug delivery system (DDS). Complexes of nucleic acids with cationic liposomes and cationic polymers have been mainly used as DDS for clinical use.
